No one has really solved that. Has it really come down to you just hoping that the bigger screen will allow you to do more things at this point and time because no one has really stood on this is the tablet device to get. >>Well I was mainly looking for media players that will also read PDF files. >>Tong: Okay >>Cause every now and then I want to read a book while I'm sitting there. >>Cooley: And you've got stuff on PDF that you're gonna be loading up there so that's the format you're looking for? >>You got it. >>Cooley: Hmm, when is the Archos 9 coming out? I lost track of that. >>I don't know. They say it's not available yet. >>Cooley: Yeah I'm looking at our post here. We've got a, have we got a quick hands on, it looks like we've done. We can put that up. Erica Ogde [assumed spelling] did a little hand's on with a PC Archos 9. Let's take a look at that so people can see what we're looking at. So that's the Archos 9, you know the white Bessel, bigger display so it's definitely kind of a generous thing. It's bigger than a Smartphone. About the size of a Netbook monitor minus the rest of the Netbook. And then the Archos 7, we've got that guy over here and let me get a picture of that up so folks can see, it's a significant difference in size. We can pull that up here and you'll see that it's much more kind of PDA, PMP size, right? >>Yeah, it's larger than an iPhone >>Cooley: Yeah so you got a big decision here on size of real estate that you want to make in your decision point, regardless of anything else. Are you looking for a pocket device or one that's more of a >>Tong: Throw in your bag >>Cooley: Throw in your bag device? >>Throw in the bag is fine. >>Cooley: Yeah I think, I don't know, like BT says, this whole sectors not sorted out. We don't have a review on the Archos 7, obviously not on the 9 so I can't do a head to head with it yet but I'm thinking waiting is very prudent in this case if you can do that. >>Alright >>Cooley: Alright, you want to go buy something >>Well I want to go buy something but I don't want to get a bad deal out of it. >>Cooley: I'd hold off >>Tong: Right off the top I just couldn't give you a clear answer. You're seeing the [inaudible] books come out. Soon you'll start seeing integration and media playback through the future as well. It's just not figured out. >>Cooley: Yeah and let's not forget the Ju Ju Tablet that Rafe Needleman of CNET tried out just a few days ago. We got hands on with that and that's kind of even bigger than the Archos 9 and that guys gonna have a lot of ability to do media and also web. You know it's a portable web tablet but it also will show 720P high depth video so you got a lot of stuff shaking out here. I feel like you're gonna be, there's the Ju Ju in a little more detail there. It's kind of a big boy. It's a little early unless you want to go do an early adopt and then I'm still gonna wait because that Archos 7, it's just too small. >>Tong: Even something like that Ju Ju is $500 for basically surfing the web. >>Cooley: Yeah, that's what they're talking about. >>Tong: So again the space just has to be cleared up. >>Cooley: Okay, that's our best advice. >>Tong: Sorry about that, John >>Alright, well thank you. >>Cooley: Okay, good luck with it. He seems to recall you guys used to match price with Amazon. Was that then, this is now? What's the story there? >>Actually we definitely try to match prices with most brick and most mortar prices so if you have an actual store. Online prices, we will try to pick some of those and we try to definitely give our customers the best possible price but we do a lot of extensive research to try to make sure that one, we're giving the best price and if you come in with something we can try to make a decision at that particular time. If it looks like something that we can do, we'll definitely go for it and do it, trying to keep our customers happy. >>Cooley: Okay so it doesn't hurt to ask so if I go in there and say, can you guys match this price even if it's online? But before we do that let's take a look at our first look video of the day and this is the, how do you pronounce that brand name? >>Tong: Invisien [assumed spelling] >>Cooley: I bet it's Invisien. They took out the vowels >>Tong: They changed ion to an en because took out the s. >>Cooley: Cause that's just how they roll. It's the Invisien digital dual box pro. Check it out. >>[background music] I'm David Carnoy and I'm here with a product from a company you probably haven't heard of. It's called Invisien and it's made a portable DVD player that also has a DTV tuner in it. That is why this product is called the dual box pro 8850A. The player itself is a pretty generic styled. It is a plain black portable DVD player. Its top is shiny and that is a big of a fingerprint magnet. We notice it does scratch a little bit on top very easily. Along with playing back your DVD's this also does divX. It also has a slot for SD cards, MMC cards and memory stick cards, along with a mini USB port and you can even attach things like a digital camera directly to this, show off your photos and show off any videos on those cameras. There's also an AV import and the devise does come with some cables that allows you to even attach a game console. You can put a PS3 on here or an XBOX 360, however it is only a composite video connection but that's okay cause this is not an HD resolution screen. You only get 480 by 234 resolution. That means when it comes to the TV side of this you're getting a DTV signal, not an HDTV signal, though it will put in an HDTV signal it will only display it at that 480 by 234 resolution. Now because this is a small 7 inch screen that picture actually looks pretty good and pretty sharp, even though it is an HGTV. One of the small downsides here is that you do have to attach an antenna to this unit. You get a little over two hours of battery life both for the DVD player and for the DTV but it might not be enough to make it through a full football game or baseball game using the battery alone. This does come with a car adaptor so you can use it to tailgate the 4A football party but if you're expecting long battery life or to put in your own set of double A alkaline batteries, this does not take it. The battery is essentially sealed into the unit so you can't carry an extra battery along with you. Anyway in the end this is a pretty decent little combo unit. It costs right around $150. It's not a great deal but if you're looking into getting a portable DTV unit and you want the added functionality of having a DVD player, this is obviously one of the units you should look at. Again they're not the sexiest unit but it does have decent features and good accessories that come with it. I know that's what they're trying to do. >>Cooley: Right, that's exactly what that is. The H is invisible. [laughter] >>Tong: There's an H in there? >>Cooley: There's an H it's invisible. Alright let's see what we got. We got an email in here >>Tong: We told people we wouldn't take their emails but we're gonna take an email. >>Cooley: I mean this isn't gonna be takin in real time. This would have come in a couple days ago so it's not the way to get in off the cuff but here we are. >>Tong: Okay >>Cooley: This one comes in from William, it says I'm looking for a laptop for around $350 to $370 for my sister and I like this because we actually got an email about buying a gift and not something for themselves. She would prefer a screen size of at least 14 inches as well as a CD drive integrated, WiFi of course. It does not need to have a Bass processor as it's going to be used mostly for browsing and typing documents. >>Tong: Okay >>Cooley: What do you think? >>Tong: Okay so right off the bat when we saw this, to find a 14 inch laptop at that price is very difficult. On Black Friday, if you had called us like the day before Black Friday, there were plenty. >>Cooley: For that and less >>Tong: There were 15 inch laptops for something like around $200, $250 but now that it's no longer black Friday, you're going to have a hard time. Really what you're talking about in the $300, $400 dollar range, you're really talking about the Netbook range. We did look at some of the deals and bargains because we want to give you a reference of maybe something possibly close to that so for example we have here, if you want to check out shopper.com, we have a 14 inch laptop. Again, this is from Refurb Depot, Refurb Depot, I assume is probably not a brand new factory out of the box. >>Cooley: Tristan, we have refurb and new merchants, right? >>Tristan: We have refurb and new merchants, yes >>Tong: And so here at Refurb Depot we have an IBM ThinkPad. It's the T42 2373. It's a 14 inch laptop and it's $320. >>Cooley: Tristan is there anyway we're gonna get this guy near $400 for a 14 inch laptop? >>Tristan: So maybe if you want to go up to a 15 inch you can find something from Amazon Marketplace that includes used laptops. >>Cooley: Yeah, that's all the partner's sellers. That's what you gotta do, a refurb. We can't do new at that price, right? >>Tong: Even on shopper here we have to know, I'm sorry, go ahead >>Tristan: No, no you're not gonna find anything new that you want to boast about. >>Cooley: [laughter] That you're even gonna want to use. >>Tong: Now if, you know, all the requirements that they asked for, they said it didn't have to be too fast. It can have WiFi and I guess they were looking for a CD drive >>Cooley: Integrated CD, I'm not sure if this T42 has that or if it's part of a dock that you probably have to buy separately cause there's a T42 right there so this is the one BT's talking about. Again, a refurb is probably the only way, it is the only way you're gonna get that since the Black Friday deal's are kind of poof. Although we keep hearing about more specials coming out, Tristan. Are our merchants, our partners still doing additional cyber Monday promotions cause I heard that there were still some more special deal days coming out that were really kind of blow out. >>Tristan: Anything could happen. >>Cooley: Yeah >>Tristan: We look everything up day by day and they just, it's very reactionary >>Cooley: Yeah if someone else does it, then they'll all do it. Okay so they're all following each other. Alright so that's the best we can do for you on that one. You're not gonna find it in routine stock even in the holiday promotions right now, William but look at a refurb. That wouldn't bother me much. You're gonna get a 90 day warranty instead of a year, that's one of the first big differences right off the bat but remember it's been checked out twice. Unlike the new ones which have only been checked once when it left the factory. There is some logic to that that it's been certified twice. If it was recertified by the manufacturer, that usually makes me feel a lot more comfortable as opposed to just a store that took it back and did some in store thing. Nothing wrong with the stores but the manufacturer really knows the ends and outs on that one. Okay let's also take a look, a very big buzz topic a lot of people have written in about. We wanted to try and do a little rundown on this. This is the Nook. A lot of folks have been talking about this a lot lately and wondering, how can I get one? You gotta wait until January now. They are sold out through the holiday season so that's it for the Nook, this is the Barnes and Noble competitor to the Kindle, to the Sony reader. Remember there's a new Sony reader coming out, the PRS900, I'm gonna bring that one up on the screen in a few minutes but the main differences on the Nook are this, of course you go to a Barnes and Noble store for the Bestsellers and all the new titles and all that kind of thing. If you can see down here, this is a very different kind of screen. I'll kind of bounce back here. It's a little hard to see but look right there and you'll see a color LCD, you've heard about this. Let me show you what that does. If you go across these you've got all these buttons, these are touch buttons but there's like my library or for the store and it's a little different way to navigate. And then you get into a menu here and you've got navigation buttons here and that's how you get around the main screen. It's a little different interface so you've gotta use the bottom to navigate the top. That takes a little getting used to. We found out it was pretty good. And the sharing is different here, you can loan somebody a book, it has this where you can loan somebody a book off your Nook for off to two weeks and while you do that you don't have it. It's not duplicating, it's sharing so bear that in mind. Some folks don't know that's how that works. And in terms of samples, later on but not immediately they're gonna roll out a WiFi layer at their stores where you take the Nook to a Barnes and Noble, you'll be able to sample an entire book, as long as you're logged into their WiFi network, that's where the authorization comes from. Amazon just let you sample the first chapter so if you'd really like to bounce around a book and see what's in there before you buy, the Nook's gonna have an advantage there as well, but for the most part, very similar device. Six inch, E ink screen, just a little different navigation, little different on the sharing and a little difference on the preview and of course the price is the same as on the Kindle, $259. The difference is you can get a Kindle right now for the holidays, you won't get this guy now. They're sold out until January. >>Tong: That was very eloquently done. >>Cooley: Did you enjoy that? >>Tong: Yeah but I do have some help for our buddy who asked about the 14 inch laptop. >>Cooley: What do you got? >>Tong: With the powers that be our wonderful, lovely, chat room, did a little lookin up for us. I wanted to close the loop on these readers. The reader you see on the left there is the current Sony Reader. That's the one you're gonna see, the PRS600, currently in stock. It doesn't have WiFi or anything or 3G. The new one is coming out December 18 through January 8th, a phased roll out. This is the third of the big boys that are on the market right now. This is the new reader daily addition. They're listing it, as you see there, at $400. Don't know what street prices are gonna be yet beyond that with shoppers, as soon as this thing hits the market but this is gonna have wireless connectivity, I believe 3G and WiFi but at least 3G, which the other current reader doesn't have. So just so you know what the playing field is. The Sony is trying to catch up in terms of features and they got their own reader store as well. I don't believe they have any decent sharing or sampling worked out yet. >>Tong: No, not yet >>Cooley: That's kind of iffy on them and as you see the price is kind of steep as well.
