The most bodaciously capacious model of this year's most mighty smart phone, the Samsung Galaxy S3, has been delayed.

"The 64GB model of the Galaxy S3 will be available during the second half of this year," a Samsung spokesperson told me today. "The market availability and timing may vary and will be determined at the time of release."

The 16GB version went on sale at the end of May. It's by far the most popular, because of course you can expand the memory by 64GB with a microSD card. Plenty of room for most people. The 32GB version is currently exclusive to Vodafone.

There was an embarrassing problem with the 'pebble' blue S3 to begin with, as Samsung couldn't get the paint right. That was quickly overcome and both blue and white S3s began flying off the shelves.

Online phone flogger Expansys earlier ruffled feathers when it changed the status of pre-orders on the S3. "This product has been discontinued, the information below is for reference purposes only," the page now says.

Other retailers, such as MobileFun and handtec, have the phone as simply 'TBC' or 'coming soon'. From what Samsung says, the 64GB model should come out in the UK at some point between now and Christmas, but may be in very limited quantities.

The S3 earned a monster four and a half stars and our coveted Editors' Choice award in our enormously extensive review. It pipped its main rival, the HTC One X, with better chip performance, better build quality and better battery life. Both phones run Ice Cream Sandwich, which until a few weeks ago was the latest version of Android.

Are you howling at the moon over the delay to the beefy blower? Or over the moon with your dainty 16GB S3? Drop a comment like it's hot, down below or on our moony Facebook page.
