Huawei reportedly orders employees to cancel US meetings
Americans working at its China headquarters were sent home, the Financial Times reports.
Huawei is apparently distancing itself from its US contacts and workers.
Huawei has responded to tension with the US by ordering employees to stop having technical meetings with American contacts, says a Thursday report.
The Chinese maker of phones and other telecommunications gear also sent away American citizens working in research and development roles at its Shenzhen headquarters, according to the Financial Times. That move came two weeks ago, after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order that cut off Huawei from American suppliers, the report said.
It all went down pretty quickly too, according to the FT. A workshop apparently ended suddenly when Trump's order was announced, and Americans were asked to leave Huawei's property.
Since then, Huawei has been checking that foreign visitors don't hold US passports and has told any Americans to avoid discussing technology as it tries to comply with regulations, Huawei Chief Strategy Architect Dang Wenshuan told the Financial Times.
Huawei didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
