Beautiful design doesn't really cost anything more than uglier, mediocre design.
It just takes the will to create something unique.
Jaguar proves it had that will when it introduced the F type in 2013, and right now, the F type coop is the most beautiful car in production.
I mean, just look at it.
The grill nestles down in the front, the belt line rises up at the rear fender, and the back glass forms a neat little horseshoe on the rear hatch.
But there are better than colors than white.
What I have here is the 2017 Jaguar S type R coop.
That's the second most potent in the S type lineup.

[MUSIC].
The F5R comes with a supercharge V engine and that's good for 550 horsepower and 502 pound feet of torque.
There's also this eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
Those are just specs.
Listen to this.
[SOUND] The F type doesn't have rev and growl it's engine like that when you start it up.
But Jaguar programmed it like that way so you would know what your driving.
And yes this car does all right in everyday driving situation that's reasonably comfortable and there is even and idle stop feature, to save you a little bit of gas at stop light.
Well that's kind of boring.
Am going to put it in dynamic mode Put the transmission over into sport mode, and might as well hit the sport exhaust button as well.
[engine revving] This is what this car is all about.
The exhaust sounds fantastic when I'm accelerating.
The dynamic mode, everything just sharpens up a lot.
The throttle's really nicely connected to the engine.
There's really good response.
Every time I just touch it, I can feel that power surge.
And when I back off of it, you hear a little back firing from the That's just kind of fun.
[MUSIC]
The transmission automatic transmission, now I know some of you are gonna want a manual transmission, they don't operate in the F type car they only operate in the lower level F type, so you might wanna give One of those just for the manual transmission, but in sport mode, this automatic is pretty good.
By breaking, I can feel a down shift, it sets me up with the power for the next turn, and it's really keeping the revs high, too.
That's keeping me in a good power band with this car.
It's got paddle shifters for a manual mode.
They're not all that fast.
They're a little bit slow to shift.
So I just prefer the sport program here.

Where this car really shines is in the corners and the handling.
A little bit before the corner, put the gas on.
And you can just feel the tires dig in.
The balance the constant.
And you feel the back end just flip out a little bit too.
Then the all wheel drive kicks in.
The all wheel drive actually fires from about two thirds the torque to the rear wheel, about one third to the front wheel.
Of course that's going to change that up when it feels like it needs to get a little extra grip.
The balance feels so good too.
And what's fantastic about this car is it's not very big.
It's about 14 and a half feet long.
It's got a nice short wheel base so you can really toss it around these corners.
My God it's a good feeling.
Here we come into another one.
Brake hard.
Then hit the gas coming out.
And it just wants to wind out through there.
Its just fantastic.
Its also got some active air there's a little wing on bats that'll open up at about 50 miles per hour.
That'll give you a little more down force if you need it.
[music]
The coupe is just such a quintessential sports car.
There's two seats in front, no little rear seat in back.
Nothing like that.
It's a little tiny bit of leg room Its just fantastic.
This car is just really meant for driving.
[MUSIC]
To be honest, I'd be satisfied with the base Jaguar F Type.
It costs about 40,000 dollars less than this one and although its down about 200 horsepower, its still plenty quick.
But in our trim the V8 sounds so good.
The car ripples with power.
Just starting it up is a visceral experience.
And I love the way it tightens up when I click into the dynamic mode.
The R trim serves up that extra olive in the martini.
But ultimately it's down to the F type's looks.
Most cars I don't give a second glance when I go for a drive.
Have.
But with the Jaguar F Type, I just want to hold up for a minute and stare.
