Hands-on with Jaguar InControl Touch Pro in the 2018 E-Pace

Today we're taking a look at the technology in the dashboard of the 2018 Jaguar E-PACE.
Specifically, the 10" Touch Pro system.
Now this is a really good looking infotainment system.
You've got this Wide, large screen.
You've got this slick home screen and a very responsive touch sensitivity.
When you tap the screen, things start happening immediately.
I also like that you've got a couple of extra home screens that you can customize.
So if you want to add certain things to the dashboard, you can just kinda go in here and add it.
And that gives you a lot of ability to set it up the way that you want it to be.
However, behind this really slick interface are just a lot of sort of minor annoyances.
For example, on the home screen it looks really good, right, but you've got these pictures that are behind all of the text.
Really big touch points, but it also makes it kind of hard to read things at a glance when you're driving.
The navigation has also got a couple of minor annoyances.
It starts out nice.
You get this landing screen that tries to suggest destinations that get you on the road really quickly.
But once you're on the road, well, there's all these little minor annoyances.
This is a system, for example, that talks a whole lot.
Sometimes when I was on the road it would be saying things like keep straight for 15 miles, over and over and over again.
With no real change.
Every couple of seconds that's really annoying.
And during rush hour it tries almost too hard to reroute you around traffic.
I mean this is the kind of system that will suggest you get off of an offramp and right back onto the highway because it thinks it's gonna save you some some time.
Trust me, it's not saving anybody anytime.
Now along the bottom edge of the screen, you've got these shortcut buttons that allow you to quickly jump to different parts of the interface.
You've got your navagation, your phone, your media sources.
I don't know why that's a movie clapper, who's watching videos on this thing?
But it's a really good interface.
We've also go a standard back up camera on this thing but this is a first edition so we're supposed to also have parking distance sensor and automatic parallel parking assist.
But something's been wrong with the system the entire time and these have been grayed out.
Whenever I try to tap them, I get some sort of message that said that the parking system is not availabe.
That doesn't speak volumes to jaguars reliability.
Overall, this is a really good looking system.
It's fairly functional, but looks aren't everything, and it's been plagued with so many small nitpicks that it just makes it hard for me to recommend.
