Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the next generation Nissan Frontier sort of.
Nissan has unveiled the 2020 Frontier here at the Chicago Auto Show.
Now if you're looking at it and saying hey, that's not the new Frontier, I mean it kinda is, the 2020 is the new model year, but the next generation Frontier is actually coming next year.
Consider this more of a gap bridger to kinda hold everyone over until then.
Now while it does look exactly the same as every frontier from 2017 yesterday, the newness is actually under the hood.
There you will find a new 3.8 liter V six that produces 310 horsepower and 281 pound feet of torque.
Now, sadly, that is the only engine on offer this year, which means the old base engine and its manual transmission are gone, leaving this V6 with just a nine-speed automatic from the title.
So why does the 2020 [UNKNOWN] [UNKNOWN] then act as sort of a holdover.
Well, that's because if you kind of haven't figured it out yet or read the article that we've posted, this is the engine that will be in the 2021 frontier.
We're just getting it a year early in the old body.
Now, that might seem weird, but this is far from the first time an automakers rolled out the new engine ahead of the car it will be in, so It's really not that weird.
If anything, I mean, Frontier sales are already great, so it's just a little icing on the cake.
The 2021 Nissan Frontier won't be on sale until next year, but for now the 2020 model behind me goes on sale in the spring.
