The Lexus RX comes in two basic forms, RX 350 and RX 450h. The RX 350 is powered by a smooth 3.5L V6 engine, producing 295 horsepower. With this engine, 60 mph arrives in under 8 seconds, despite being rated at 28 mpg on the highway in front-wheel drive trim. The RX 450h combines a traditional gasoline engine with an electric motor for a total of 308 horsepower. Fuel economy jumps to 30 mpg on the highway for front-wheel drive versions. The only transmission available is an 8-speed automatic, while all-wheel drive is optional on either version of the RX.
Both the RX 350 and the RX 450h are available in F SPORT guise, further enhancing both the interior and exterior styling, while also tightening up the handling. Only available on all-wheel drive models, the F SPORT package adds an 8-inch LCD display instrument cluster, unique quilted seats, adjustable suspension, interior aluminum trim accents and drilled aluminum pedals. Outside, the F SPORT gets a blacked out grill, and exclusive 20-inch wheels
Option packages available on the RX 350 include a Luxury Package with perforated leather seats, a nicer powered driver's seat, 20-inch wheels, a heated steering wheel and Gray Sapele wood trim. A Navigation Package adds a 12.3-inch color screen for the navigation system, a 15-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, voice command, a DVD player, Dual-Zone climate control and Lexus Enform app suite. A Lexus Safety System package includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, dynamic radar controlled cruise control, a lane keep assist and lane departure warning system, intelligent high beam headlights and premium triple beam LED headlights.
The Lexus RX has been a sales juggernaut since it ignited the luxury SUV segment more than two decades ago. Today, it offers solid style, comfort and performance across a broad lineup. You can get a gas or hybrid drivetrain, more engaging F Sport trims and as of a few years ago, a third row.
But just because the RX sits atop the sales charts doesn't mean it's not without shortcomings. The in-your-face front end isn't everyone's cup of tea, and the cumbersome-to-operate tech leaves a lot to be desired. And while the ride veers toward being supple and luxurious, the RX is a far cry from being fun to operate. Enter the 2020 model, which aims to improve all these things.
I've written on numerous occasions that I don't mind Lexus' spindle grille. Like BMW's kidney grille, it's recognizable and synonymous with the brand. The front and rear fascias are updated on the 2020 RX 350, with the most noticeable change happening on the grille. On non-F Sport versions, the horizontal slats are out in favor of a more impactful mesh pattern that, along with the altered bumper cover and slim headlights, make it edgier.
A more intuitive infotainment interface headlines a number of changes to Lexus' full-size LS sedan.
The flagship sedan also gets a sprinkling of other, incremental updates for the new model year.
The big news is a move (finally) to a touchscreen infotainment system.
The vehicles added range in year from 2013 up to 2020.
Lexus' compact IS sedan is lovelier to look at and, thanks to some suspension tweaks, much better to drive, too.
