Clear your schedules and make a date in your diary: Apple is making an announcement on Tuesday 22 October -- probably trumping Nokia and Microsoft in the process.

AllThingsD reports that Apple's next big announcement will take place on 22 October, revealing the next generation of iPad, which could also boast a fingerprint-reading home button. That's the same day Nokia unveils its new Lumia line-up in Abu Dhabi, and the new Microsoft Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 hit shops.

What else will Apple reveal? Apple just released the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, so it won't be a phone. Maybe we'll see more of Apple OS X Mavericks, the new software for iMac and MacBook computers, currently in final testing.

Or maybe we'll see the fabled Apple iWatch? Perhaps, but probably not -- Apple is reported to be working on a wrist-worn wearable gadget, but it's not set to turn up for a year at least.

What do you think Apple will announce? What do you want to see in the new iPad? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook wall.
