Your Oculus avatar can pull a sword out of thin air and take a VR selfieAt the 2016 Oculus Connect 3 keynote, Mark Zuckerberg showed off a live VR chat with the Oculus Rift.
First live demo in VR. [LAUGH] [BLANK_AUDIO] All right. [BLANK_AUDIO] We are in virtual reality right here at Oculus Connect. [APPLAUSE] [LAUGH] Hey guys. How's it going? Hey Mark. It's great to see you. Hey Mark. You guys too. Your avatars look a lot better than the last time you showed me. Yeah. We actually have faces now and bodies and we even look like ourselves. Yeah, even though you're a cartoon, it's pretty amazing that our minds can just automatically understand the facial expressions. So I can understand what you're feeling right now. Right, so we can actually make eye contact. Our mouths move when we talk so we know who's speaking in the room. I can even make expressions. I can smile. I can look surprised. [LAUGH] I can look confused. You're making those sound effects right now. That's me. I can even laugh if you say something funny. Here. Take a look at your own avatar. Well, why did you make me look like a young version of Justin Timberlake. [LAUGH] [LAUGH] [LAUGH] [LAUGH] That's the over the top laugh is now part of the avatar system. All right. No, no that's all me, yeah. All right, so now that we're here, the point is, of being here is to talk about building a software platform. That puts people first right so if we were using a phone we would have to pick what app or what task we wanted to do but since we're in virtual reality we're here together and we're in a space where we can do whatever we want, so do you want to go somewhere? Yes, lets, in fact how about I take us to The bottom of the ocean. Sounds good, all right. [LAUGH] [LAUGH] Shark. Those are sharks. All right, I'll pull out a shark. How about we go somewhere else? How about we go to another planet, say Mars? Wait a second, Mike, didn't you say that was goanna cost billions and we'd all probably die? Not in VR. Welcome to Mars. Well, I don't think I'd wanna live here. [LAUGH] All right, guys, how about we go somewhere where there's some more people. You know, that's kinda my thing. What about Facebook offices? Great idea. All right, okay, all right here we are back, back on our own. All right so here we are, this is my office at Facebook. So, all right, so, you know the point of this and the reason why we're here is to talk about how, you know, we have this space together in VR. And how we can go and do anything that we want together. And so, you wanna play a game? That sounds great, let's try a quick game of cards. Here we go two for you, two for you, and two for me. All right, what are we playing? Let's just do a quick game of high card, ready? Flip them over on three, one. Two, three. What you got there? I win. Let's see. Man. I barely ever won in demo practice. [LAUGH] We didn't plan that at all. Well another game we can play might be chess. I'll go first, queen to center of board. I'm not sure what to do with that, [LAUGH] In virtual reality, you can make any move you want, apparently. All right. Here you go. [INAUDIBLE] When I was in school, I actually used to fence. You got another one of these? I can do one better. Check this out. I will just make my own. [LAUGH] Draw this little thing like this. So, I'm going to go [SOUND] like this. Alright, on guard. [LAUGH] Swish, swish. Clang, clang. [APPLAUSE] Alright [APPLAUSE] [LAUGH] Look what I've got guys. I think you win. All right, we surrender. [LAUGH] Another thing we can do together would be just watch a simple video. [LAUGH] Now unlike on the phone, [INAUDIBLE] Yeah right? Somewhat like our own private movie theatre. [LAUGH] Quite the falcon you've got there. All right. Hey, so I promised Priscilla that I would go home to check on our dog Beast. Do you wanna come with me? Sure. All right. Let's go do it. Sounds great. [BLANK_AUDIO] All right, here we are. Check it out. We are at my home and there's Beast. There's Beast. He's adorable. Yeah. [LAUGH] He looks so happy, that's great. Well, I mean, he's got his ball, it's all good. Hey! I'm getting a call in Facebook Messenger. [SOUND] Dude, you can actually answer that call in VR, take a look at your wrist. Woah! [BLANK_AUDIO] Hey. Hi. How's it going? Good. Why do you look like Justin Timberlake? [LAUGH] Anyway how's [INAUDIBLE] doing? He's great. Here take a look. He's just hanging out with his ball. He's doing well. But this is crazy, you are dialed into virtual reality right now. And beast has no idea what's going on. [LAUGH] He usually doesn't. hey do you mind if I just put you here for a second? Sure, I'm in clinic, but my next patient not here yet. So I have ten minutes. alright cool hand out in virtual realty in between treating real patients. Alright, so hey while we're here do you want to take a quick Modern Family selfie. [LAUGH] I have [UNKNOWN] for that. There you go. Of course, you have a selfie stick. Of course. All right, let's do this. Hold on, I've gotta get the angle right. [APPLAUSE] All right, okay, let's check out these photos. All right, which one do you like? We gotta put one of these on Facebook. [LAUGH] What do you think? The right one? Do the one on the right side. I think this one might be even better. Now it's art, all right let's stick with this. All right, Facebook, bam. There you go. Awesome. [APPLAUSE] All right. [APPLAUSE] All right, so you know this has been a great example I think of the type of experiences you can have when we're here together and we have this space. And we can do anything we want. So, nice job pulling this together guys, it amazing how much progress we've made. [INAUDIBLE] Thank you very much. All right, I should probably get back to the keynote but I'll see you guys a bit later. See ya. All right. See you Priscilla. Take it easy. All right. [APPLAUSE]
