Hello, everyone! Im Molly Wood and welcome to the CNET Mailbag, the show that
reaps the benefits every time CNET rolls out a new feature. Also, we read your feedback
and answer questions about our content, our shows, and sometimes ourselves. Lets start
with a new trick on CNET TV.
Jonathan writes:
I was watching Loaded today (July 16th) and every time Natalie said 'Palm' or 'Apple',
the box under the play list flashed with links to the full story or official site. Why must
this happen Molly! WHY!!
Uh, ok, you sound kind of negative about it. Were testing a thing called a SmartBar,
where when products are mentioned or youre watching a First Look, you get links to the
CNET review or related websites. Only about 10 percent of you will be seeing it, so dont
worry if you havent. We just thought it might be kind of helpful. Apparently Adam
disagrees. He says:
I hate the new "Products in this show" tool it is very annoying. Please offer an opt-out.
Oh, come on. Someday its going to come in handy. In the meantime, good news. There
IS an opt-out. See? Close.
Luckily, theres usually one positive for all the negatives. Eli says:
Is that side thing new? This is much easier then having to look for the product after.
Thats the idea.
Moving on, lets take this opportunity to revisit some of the classic questions we get over
and over at Mailbag. For example:
I absolutely love CNET and I was hoping if my love for it could turn into an iPhone app?
I must say that I am surprised that you don't have an iPhone application yet, and I hope
you add one soon! Oh, and just
in case this ends up on Mailbag, my name is a little hard to pronounce so let me make it
easy, can you say zay-bee?
Howd I do? We dont have an app ONLY for CNET TV, but we do have the TV.com
iPhone app, which actually has video from ALL the CBS properties, like, well, CBS and
Showtime and CBS News, and CNET! Its pretty cool, you can make a feed of the shows
you want and they pop up whenever theres a new one. Big Brother AND the Buzz
Report! See, we give you a little extra.
Heres one I get a lot and I kind of love it. Sherri says:
Enough with the video reviews of products! I just want to read!
Thats ok, Sherri. Well let you read. Just go to CNET.com and BASK in all the words.
Wag3000 echoes a common request this week:
When are we going to see the prizefight between the Iphone 3gs and Pre? also please use
the Wifi connection for both phones not the 3g networks when doing your speed test.
Well, that last part isnt a common request. And makes no sense to me. Were not testing
WiFi speeds. Were testing 3G network speeds. But anyway, that Prizefight was delayed
because its vacation season, but it should be out SOON. Like maybe even this week. I
hope.
Every1rocks555 has a little advice for our CNET editors.
is it just me or is the cnet reviewers are getting into that overacting humor like pretending
to throw a laptop and punching an LCD screen
i mean it was good at first it was a little humorous but it then just turns adquard
sorry it just is
Ok. Well take it under advisement. No one like adquard video.
And now for a little auto-incorrect!
Ben says:
I was on my iPod touch sending an email to my grandpa about my grandma Instead of
saying "I thought of her last nite night" It said " I touched her last night " HOW DO YOU
GET TOUCHED OUT OF THOUGHT OF!! No more emails on that hell device...palm
pre all the way.
Yeah. Wow. For sure. Grandma!? Thats messed up.
And thats it for this week, everyone! Keep the feedback and questions coming! Email
me at Mailbag@cnet.com, or send your snail mail to 235 2nd St., San Francisco, CA,
94105. Thanks for watching, everyone.
