If you own a drone, the first thing to know is you can't fly them everywhere.
Here are the basics: Drones have to fly below 400 feet. You have to be able to see it at all times and they should stay at least five miles away from airports and out of national parks.
Some drone makers, like DJI, build in a GPS technology that automatically keeps your drone out of these no fly zones.
But if yours doesn't do that.
There are maps available on the web.
You'll also have to register your drone.
The US Department of Transportation will soon require that drone owners file their ownership in a national registry.
Details and guidelines on how you can do that will become available at the end of November, and finally, it's not always a good time to fly.
Drones are lightweight and don't have a ton of power.
So in most cases you should only fly your drone when the conditions are clear and the wind is calm.
