The Toshiba Encore: A budget 8-inch tablet packing full-fat Windows 8
Tech Industry
I'm Andrew Hoyle for CNET, and I'm here at the IFA tech show in Berlin, checking out the Toshiba Encore.
It's an 8-inch tablet, packing full Windows 8.1 and comes with a satisfyingly low price.
So design-wise, there's not a whole lot to get to where it's talked about.
See this back panel is quite plain, although Toshiba has said that it's going to have a different finish when it goes on sale.
Around the edges, you can see we've got HDMI port and we've got dual microphones, and on the bottom, there are
dual Dolby speakers, too.
It's a little weighty, but you won't struggle to hold it in one hand for at least a little while.
The 8-inch screen has a 1280x800 pixel resolution, which is a little disappointing, but that is offset by its low price.
It at least looks quite bright and reasonably bold.
Inside is an Intel Atom processor and it's packing the latest version of Windows known as 8.1.
If we head over to the desktop, we can see that the Start menu is finally back.
Crucially though, it'll cost only 249 pounds or $329
for the 32-gigabyte model when it goes on sale in the November.
