Hi guys, **** Ngo here, and this is the Trion 100 Solid State Drive from OCZ.
Now, this is the very first OCZ SSD that uses entirely Toshiba components, from the controller to the flash memory.
And if you wonder why, this is because OCZ has been part of Toshiba for more than a year now.
Also, the first OCZ asks that you use the new triple-layer cells, or TLC fast memory.
Basically, this means that you can cramp more cells into the same space, resulting in cheaper access SSD at the expense of the performance.
And indeed, this one was one of the slowest SSDs I've ever seen in a long time.
It's not that slow, by the way.
Because compared with regular hard drive like this one here, it's still so much faster.
And the drive doesn't come with much, either.
There's no accessory at all.
Basically what you see here is what you get.
And on the inside, it does not support encryption.
But to make up for that it has a very high level of endurance.
For example this 48 gigabyte drive here can handle up to 120 terabytes of data written to it.
So basically if you write 110 gigs per day and every day it would take you 3 years to wear out this drive.
Now of course if you write less, of course you will, it will take even longer, but three years is the warranty time.
Okay, now the price.
The Trion here is quite affordable, costing as low as $57 for 128 GB all the way up to $370 for 980 GB.
Now note that the suggested retail price And the street price expected to be even lower.
So chances are, you're looking at the most affordable drive on the market.
So if you have an old computer that still run on a regular hard drive, the Trion here is a great cheap Investment that would bring about great returns in terms of performance.
But if you consider yourself an SSD connoisseur, the new drive here might not cut it.
But hey, that's your problem.
For more on this you can check out my full review at CNET.com.
Basically, it's a fast [UNKNOWN] affordable solid-state drive to replace that old hard drive you still have.
So do it, and you can thank me later.
Or go ahead and thank me now.
I'm fine with that.
And that's because I'm **** Ngo.
And this has been the first look at the Trion 100 solid-state drive from OCZ.
