The new Amazon Echo Dot: Does it sound better than before?
The new third generation Amazon Echo Dot is sitting right here beside me in the CNET Smart Home.
We've been testing it out, specifically the audio quality.
Which Amazon says is a lot better than before.
You could see it's a little bigger than the old one, and it's got this new fabric cover and a little bit more of a premium speaker feel to it, but does that translate to better sound?
We'll start by comparing it to the second gen Echo Dot that came before it.
So not hugely surprising that a bigger Echo Dot with more speaker hardware inside of it sounds better than before.
But the real question that a lot of people have is does this thing sound as good as the Google Home Mini?
This is the arch rival to the Echo Dot, and when it arrived it offered better sound than the Echo Dot.
Now, the third gen model wants to close that gap and maybe surpass it.
So let's see if it did, let's check them out.
So which one do you think sounds better?
I think it's offly close.
The new Echo Dot sounds a little more powerful to my ear and it might have a better base too.
But other times, I think that the Google Home Mini offers slightly more clarity We're gonna need to do some more tests.
So in the meantime, let us know what you think in the comments.
And keep an eye out for our full review in the coming days.
