Hello, everyone! I�m Molly Wood and welcome to the CNET Mailbag, the show where
we read all of your emails, even the ones that aren�t addressed to us! Let me start with a
thank you to all the people who wrote in and said nice things to me after I read Quentin�s
mean email last week. See, I think the mean emails are funny, but I�ll stop reading them,
I don�t want you guys to think I�m fishing for compliments. But thanks for all the
compliments!
Ok, to the mail. First up, a snail mail shout-out to Holly in New York, a forum friend of
Buzz Out Loud, who sent a postcard and said, �I�ve been meaning to spam the CNET
Mailbag for a long time �� and sent this. Hahaha. You laugh now, but this is going in
my earthquake kit.
Now to the emails! There was a lot of response to Apple�s iPad announcement last week,
and one user was hoping he could use Mailbag as a feedback line � for Apple. Venkat
writes:
Somehow, I need this to get to Steve Jobs. Please. Thank you.
His subject line was: The iPad is an iJoke, and his email was REALLY, REALLY long.
Here�s a snippet from the end:
So, in summary, I believe you've actually hurt Apple's image with the iPad. I chatted with
my cousin last night about the iPad event, and he kidded about waking up tomorrow and
finding out that everything Apple revealed yesterday was part of some big joke! Sadly, it
appears that this is serious.
It�s a pretty well-reasoned argument, actually, but � I�m sorry, Venkat, Steve Jobs
doesn�t actually take my calls. I�ve tried. But maybe you should blog that email and like,
Steve will find it when he�s Googling himself. Worth a try.
Love for Tom Merritt and the how-tos this week, satcomer says:
Thank you Tom Merritt for finally explaining CAT cables to everyone. It really lays out
the complicated world of CAT cables so everyone could easily follow it.
And Jake writes:
I LOVED Tom's recent Top5 where IE was the world's biggest loser!! At least CNET has
their mind straight.
Well, Tom does, anyway. Actually, we are doing something cool, at least in Justin�s eyes.
He says:
I just wanted to say how much I love the Cnet River beta you all are testing. I find it very
useful to keep tabs on my favorite editors, and to learn about the writing staff at Cnet in
general. Also, I have the guilty pleasure of critiquing those editors who don't actually
post regularly. I'm not naming people, but this is a great productivity tracker. Could you
also put it back on the homepage? I have it bookmarked now, but maybe it would be
better for others to know about it.
If you haven�t seen what he�s talking about, check out cnet.com/river � it IS cool. It�s
like an integrated feed of everything we�re doing at CNET � the reviews and videos we
post, our Twitter feeds, blog posts, the whole shebang, all in one place. I just hope our
bosses haven�t figured out the productivity tracker part. Ahem.
Moving on, let�s do a quick auto-incorrect. Threevikings says:
I used the Handcent application on my Verizon Droid (basically it takes voices and
converts it to an SMS text message). To my horror, my voice message of "Great Thanks"
was somehow converted to "Great Sex". Needless to say, I cancelled the message,
thereby avoiding a call from HR.
Ooh, yeah. Good call. I kind of want to try that app, but � I kind of don�t.
And finally, I get email for Steve Jobs, email for Andy Rooney � and then I have no
idea who this email could be intended for. Vince writes:
Just wondering do you only have 2 movies to show every day Youve Got Mail and
Sleepless in Seattle I see another one Office Space are you going to run that one to death
also this is radicales. If you need more movies let me know.
Uh. Yeah, sure. I�ll take more movies. Thanks, Vince!
