Sony got off to a bit of a slow start with its action cam line of POV cameras, but now, two years in, it seems to have hit its stride with the AS-100V and now the AV-1, aka the action cam mini.
I'm Josh Goldman with CNET and like GoPro's 04 Silver the action cam mini s a step down from Sony's top camera, the AS 100V but has nearly the same performance and capabilities.
You can capture 1080p at 60 frames per second or 720p at 120 frames per second.
And using Sony's XAVC S format, it can record at 50 megabits per second, giving you great detail and fewer compression artifacts.
It's about two thirds the size of it's line mate and the body is splash proof though it comes with the waterproof housing good down to 16 feet or 5 meters.
The battery life feels a bit short depending on what you're recording at, but you can easily swap out for a new one.
It charges via micro-USB and records to microSD cards.
But you'll need to get an SDXC card to record in XAVCS.
The tiny screen on the side is just for seeing battery, wi-fi and card status, so you'll need to use its wi-fi to connect to your smartphone or to Sony's Live View remote to preview and review your shots or change settings.
The remote also has GPS for grabbing location info for your recording.
The wi-fi can also be used for live streaming to U stream.
You can read the full review on CNET.com but it's definitely one of the best options for recording your thrills and spills.
I'm Josh Goldman and that's a look at the Sony Action Cam Mini AZ1.
