We preview San Diego Comic-Con 2015 (Tomorrow Daily 204)

On today's show we tell you all the awesome stuff that's gonna happen at Comic Con 2015. [MUSIC] [LAUGH] [UNKNOWN] That was a [UNKNOWN] Tomorrow Daily. We got a lot of stuff to talk about, I was just like let's get this thing started. We do. This is our official ComicCon preview episode for 2015. For those of you that don't know, ComicCon is a huge convention that happens in San Diego. We're talking about the San Diego ComicCon of course, there's New York ComicCon, But this is considered the big show for a lot of movie properties, and comic books, and television. All show off their stuff. So that's what we're gonna talk about. So, let's get started with those headlines [MUSIC] I should just really briefly mention, for anybody who is listening to this show for the first time, I'm Ashley Skevin, this is Kevin Novis, and this is Tomorrow Daily. Who tuned into just this one. Listen man, some people really like ComicCon better than they like this show, and might be like, hey look, a preview episode, I'm going to click on it, and then they're going to be like, hey, who are Who are these clowns? Yes. This is my first and last episode watching this show. Exactly. Okay, so how are we doing this? Comic con is coming up. This week. Officially tomorrow. This is Tuesday. Yeah. Preview night is Wednesday. Then we're going to start getting news Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. And then that will be it. So there will be news from pretty much all of your properties except for Marvel, and stuff like that. Yeah. So how are we tackling this. So let's just group up a couple of the days. Obviously Saturday is it's own kind of big thing. But Sunday is kind of small. And then Friday is it's own big day. And then Wednesday Thursday. So let's start with Wednesday and Thursday, let's get into it. So we have preview night, which I have found to be really interesting and I have found TV shows. They show a lot of pilots and things like that that people can go in and sit and watch and stuff like that on preview night. Kind of fun. But really, the important stuff is happening on Thursday, starts on Thursday. It kicks off Doctor Who panel which is going to be a really good panel. This is the year where we will see a new companion more than likely. A new companion could be a guy, we don't know. This the read through of this coming series With Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman, and also a guest star this season, you can see her right there, she's really small. Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark on Game of Thrones will be a guest start on Doctor Who this- Oh, what do you know? That'll be fun. This coming season, which is pretty awesome. And they look like they're having a great time, they're talking about the read-through and everything on BBC America, so I'm sure They'll have a great panel, that will be happening on Thursday. CBS, our parent company will be showing off a few of their Summer shows, and hopefully, I'm hoping for Super Girl, I would love to see more Super Girl. Its a CBS TV panel so its a little bit of everything so I'm actually hoping that we get to see Supergirl action, maybe a little bit more, because I think a lot of people were really conflicted about the trailer. But when the show actually leaked, the pilot, people seemed to be really into it. They said it was a lot better than what the trailer It indicated it would be. Yeah. So. People are pretty judgemental bunch really. Very. And then lastly just as, for anyone that's a fan of the Huger Games, The Hunger Games Mockingjay part two is going to have a panel On Thursday, and that will be the very last one that Hunger Games has. Cuz they've got their very final. I want to say it's a trilogy. It's a trilogy with the third movie broken in to two parts. A quad, a really dumb quad-trilogy. I hate that we do that with movies now. I'm just gonna call it a trilogy for all intents and purposes. Last half of the last movie, Mockingjay. Coming out this year so they'll have a panel on Thursday as well. Okay, so, let's talk about Friday because Okay Star Wars is, Lucas Film has their, th-this is literally, this is the big panel that I think most of you, this and Saturday Warner Brothers huge, two huge panels. So Lucas Films has their panel, right up front, people are like let's get more Star Wars. But now we're hearing, no trailer, no clip. From Star Wars [UNKNOWN] And it looks like they're probably saving that for their D23 conference. Got him! Lame, super lame. So what do you think they're gonna show? They did say they have like some special surprise, like some spectacular thing that they're gonna be showing on Friday. Or that they're gonna be announcing? They're gonna do, I know we said none of this sort of thing, but they're gonna show some sort of different version of it, or like oh, check it out, there's an app where you can watch the trailer yourself, like they don't necessarily have to show it, but they can announce that you can see it now or something like that. I like that. Yeah, they're gonna pull something, there's no way they're gonna walk away from this and not Want to come out on top. Because right now Warner Brothers is the only one that everyone is like The game in town. OK, that's the one to go see. Do you think, though, that they're going to hold off on video until D23 next month? Because that's the Disney conference, that's the big to-do for Disney. And they want people to buy tickets for that. Oh, yeah. Do you think they'll kind of Kind of hold their hand a little bit, and like maybe just give a taste. Yeah. Give a taste and then say well if you wanna know more you have to. Yeah, but think about if they were like an app. If they announced an app. I think you're probably. That would like give you access to certain things even at D23. I know that's the most boring theory that someone could come up with that they're gonna announce an app. But it's also pretty realistic. But I'm thinking they're gonna find a workaround of Of all their quotes that they would have here. Well JJ Abrams is really good at that. Like kind of saying one thing, but then saying like, well I didn't really say this. I kind of said this. Like, so I think he might be on the right track there. I also want to put a little bit of money down on, I would bet that we're gonna hear more about who's replacing Josh Trank to direct one of the spinoff films, cuz he stepped down. And then also, we might be hearing more about Rogue One. So, I think we're gonna maybe learn who the cast is of Rogue One, or something like that. Okay. Maybe we'll get some -- maybe we'll get some cast announcements. That's pretty good, that'd be exciting. That'd be cool. Also on -- on Friday, Game of Thrones panel, it's gonna be ginormous, just the -- these are the hugest panels that you possibly, maybe they're Six thousand seats. Was it six thousand seats? Yeah In Hall H? Because it's so many people. Too many people. How do they even, I still don't understand how they even have these panels since everyone's just going to ask questions about What happens next season The next season. Or what happened to a certain character. And they can't answer that. But it should be an interesting panel if anything slips because the show has caught up with the books True. You see kind of how So [CROSSTALK]. See if we start getting hints about where both of them are going now. So that should be interesting there's always something that slips by. So now HBO is gonna be sending off not only fans of the show who wanna know what happens who haven't read the books, but the people who read the books now are like please hopefully flip up and tell me what happens in the books next. Yeah. I'm sorry HBO. You guys are in for a tough fight. Lastly Walking Dead season six. This is going to be the season six now, this is some behind the scenes stuff. You can see everybody walking around and Michael Cudlitz, Abraham. Also known as one of the varsity players in Mighty Ducks 3. Go back and watch it, I swear it's true. Oh my God, that is going to ruin my life. It is going to ruin your life. Gives a little tour of backstage, it's pretty cool. I love this little clips. If you go to AMC's YouTube channel, they uploaded this a little while ago and it's really fun. It's actually really interesting and cool. I like watching them filming behind the scenes and stuff, so that'll be happening as well. That's another show where it's kind of, the book has kind of blazed a pathway, and there's many different stories where they could go next, and a lot of people are saying, one place there's a character that I would love to have them introduce So this should be interesting. Cuz that could be one where they're like, we have a new person add to the cast. And it's like, oh my God. Who could this person be? That's where this show is going. [CROSSTALK] Very interesting. And the show's been getting steadily better. Yeah. I think it's really good. And I do think that Kirkman has now kind of been like, taken the same tact as [INAUDIBLE] where he's like, the show and the comics are just different things now. They Exist and they're both equally great, but this is a separate thing. So and it's- Yeah. It's good, but it's just not gonna, things are gonna be different. I mean, and don't forget that they also now are going to have Fear of the Walking Dead, which is a spin-off of The Walking Dead and takes place in Los Angeles. Which also seems exciting. We haven't seen anything. We've seen a few seconds of people running, but no zombies, no character development, maybe one line of dialogue. So, they'll probably show a scene or maybe they'll give us the intro, or maybe they'll show part of the first episode. They might even show half of the first episode. Yeah. We don't know. So there could be a lot that comes out of the Walking Dead. I know that they're going huge this year. Yeah, huge, huge They've got like three parties, they're going big. They're collaborating with like, a couple of the, like EW or something like that. It's a lot. It;s a lot of stuff. Okay so now, let's talk about Saturday and Sunday, mostly Saturday. Saturday is going to be a really big day at the conference. That's saying it lightly. This is Warner Brothers Day. Literally, there's some other heavy hitters that we'll talk about in a second but Warner Brothers. We've got how many movies coming out? Aqua Man, Suicide Squad, Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. I mean they have so much content that they could talk about. What do you think they're going to talk about, Cale? Every single one of those things. You think all? I think they're going to talk about every single one of those things. They don't have. Any way of getting this information out otherwise? Like Marvel does, Marvel has their own, they put on their own panel they just have Disney in general. Right, they have Disney to do that stuff. Warner Brothers and DC don't really have anything. They're definitely going to use The fact that nobody has any buzz going to make this convention DC-con. And honestly, they've been kinda dwarfed a lot. And going big is really gonna keep the eye on them for the rest of the year. I think they'll show every single one of those things. I hope they have the cast Suicide Squad. That'd be rad. I really want it hear Harley Quinn's voice. If they just give everyone a little bit more. A little taste. the problem is that we have seen a lot of the leaks of the Suicide Squad. We have. We haven't seen any actual Suicide Squad. I think they need to fix that a little bit. They need to get out in front of that behind the scenes, shaky cam footage and be like, okay but here is what it's really going to be like. And blow us all away. Anything goes with that though. They should bring. If they are smart, they will just bring everything. Yeah and everyone. Just bring them all. Just bring everybody. Then there is also the 20th CEntury Fox panel. Which is going to include X-Men Apocalypse. We are going to learn more about that movie that is going up. I finally, finally just saw X-Men Day of the Past. What did you think? I loved it. Yeah, it's good. I thought it was really, really good. It was really interesting way to sort of Reboot the characters without rebooting the characters and I'm really looking forward to what they do in Apocalypse. It was so great. I enjoyed it. THis is the end, this one. It is. They're going to lose some cast members after the end of this and I don't mean they're going to die but. Jennifer Lawrence said she's not coming back. She's done. That this is gonna be the last one. Hugh Jackman is. Yeah. He's finished with, he's like, I've been playing Wolverine for 17 years. I didn't even think about that until he said it in an interview. I'm like, oh my God, he has been playing Wolverine for almost 20 years, that's crazy. X-Men Apocalypse. Also,Fantastic Four. They have that coming out. Fantastic Four. They will probably show a little more of the movie, get people jacked up about it. It's coming in a month. Then also what we are really hoping for is some dead pull. Which wrapped up production last month. Well, that'd be a Marvel, but yes. But isn't it odd, isn't 20th Century Fox producing this or distributing? Oh, yeah, maybe. The Deadpool movie. I guess I'm not in tune with that, so probably, yeah. Yeah, I think it's 20th Century Fox. Okay, cool. So they're, I'm hoping that'll be a big focus. Like I would love for them to focus on that. Because I think a lot of people are super excited, including you. I don't think they need to show us anything. Ok. Fair enough. I honestly think that if anything they should give maybe a one minute clip and it shouldn't And that's it. It shouldn't even necessarily be from the movie. Yeah. Because the people that are hyped about Deadpool are hyped about Deadpool. You don't need. Alright. We don't really need, the other pictures that have come out have been enough to hype people up, like We don't need a trailer yet. Just get it finished. Get the trailer out [UNKNOWN]. Make it great. Put Ryan Reynolds up there to quell everyone's, like if you have any fears, I don't really think we need to like, expose too much of it. Fair enough. People have already read the script apparently and they said it was great, so We're good, just show us something that doesn't happen necessarily, it could be new. Maybe like the teaser that was sort of the, kind of the impetus of the to-do list, the thing that kicked off the snowball off the hill, that little animated bit, where he was sitting on the bridge, and he was drawing. I think something self-referential towards the actual con itself would be really funny I like that, because Deadpool is all about breaking the fourth wall, so, if he breaks the fourth wall of actually being on a panel, that would be great. That would be rad. Something like that. Something that makes It makes you think, oh my god, you never know what to expect. Just have him come out in costume, and have him running around, do the entire panel as Deadpool, that would be amazing. I wouldn't put it past him, obviously. That would be glorious. Lastly, Legendary. Legendary Pictures has a couple movies coming out. In the next eight or nine months. Crimson Peak, they'll be bringing Crimson Peak. Oh yeah, finally, right? Which I think looks awesome. Finally. I mean, I love Guillermo Del Toro, so this is right up my alley cuz it's Gothic horror, it just looks Amazing and I have to see it. And then also not only [UNKNOWN] they're also gonna do a Warcraft panel which this might see the first time. We see footage. We see some footage, I mean we saw some at Blizzcon but they never released it. They didn't release what I saw and what I saw was mind blowing. I just couldn't believe what I was seeing on the screen in terms of the rendering. Think about Blizzard cinematics already. Like how good they are, and how much people enjoy them. And just like times it by a thousand. I mean it was unbelievable. The expressions on their faces and the eyes. The orcs are amazing. Yeah. I think we'll get a trailer. I think so. I think we'll actually get a full trailer. A full trailer. Because yeah, it's coming out at the end of the year We haven't had It's March now. March of next year. They pushed it back like six months ago. That's not good. You don't want a movie to come out in March. But that's for my birthday. I think we will get a trailer. Not like a teaser trailer or something like that. We want a full trailer. They are going to want to push something out. It's time. It's time we see some warcraft. So there's There's all that going on. That's ComicCon, I mean really, those are the big panels. Of course there's going to be other stuff happening. So all the DC television shows are gonna have something to show Yeah. So if you're into any of that TV nerd stuff, it's gonna be a huge year for you. That's me. That's me. [MUSIC] And so Jennifer Lawrence might have rejected you, but I will tell you somebody who won't. Your very favorite, Ryan Reynolds. Dead Pool. What about him? He's got a movie coming out this week, but first wait really quickly. Minions is coming out this Friday. from Dispicable Me, they get their own movie. They get their own movie. I'm excited about this. It looks really cute. I love the minions who doesn't? The arch light here in LA got turned into a giant minion. I don't know if you saw that. Oh, that sounds cool. They put a huge wrap over the arch light theater, which is a big dome, and it's a minion, it's insane it looks amazing. But yeah, I love this trailer where they are like trying to help all of these bad guys and end up either killing them or otherwise disposing of them in different ways, which is really funny. But, yeah, so they go to the, they go to villain-con that's their big thing, they go to villain-con and they meet Sandra Bullock's character, who's a big time villain; Scarlet Overkill And she takes them in. And it looks super entertaining and hilarious. So I would say maybe that's one of the movies you want to go see this weekend, if you're going to go see something. And then your good friend, the bromance of your life. Ryan Reynolds. Yeah. Ryan Reynolds and Ben Kingsley star in Selfless, which is coming out this weekend. Which is an interesting premise. Its Ben Kingsley's this rich old guy, he doesn't want to die and he ends up using Ryan Reynolds' body to interject his consciousness into. Inject his consciousness into Ryan Reynolds body and so he goes and then it turns out apparently I guess they murdered Ryan Reynolds, not murdered him but put him in somehow Took him out of the equation and kept him alive to like use for this experiment or whatever, this company and he starts pantingly get the procedure done and start seeing visions of Ryan Ronald's life. Yeah And so he goes and seek out Ryan Ronald's family like a wife and a kid and all this stuff and it just looks really intense. Yeah, that's a really crazy summer release. Yeah! That seems like an October movie, right? Yeah, it seems a little bit more like a thoughtful month. Yeah, like fall. But alright, it definitely looks interesting. It does look interesting. It looks like yeah, you're gonna have to really pay attention and I feel like it's going to be really. It's not Terminator, I feel like it's going to be good or it's really not going to make any sense. I feel like there's not really going to be an in between, like, oh that was all right., I feel like you are going to be like wow that is better than I thought it was going to be, or wow, that was worse than I thought it was going to be. So fingers crossed, its better than you thought it would be, but that is coming out this weekend as well. That's it for new releases, slow month for video games because we all have just died from exhaustion from E3, there's smaller games coming out, you can always Wander around the internet and find out what's happening. Or you're still playing Batman like Logan, right? Oh yeah. Yes. In fact, producer Logan is playing Batman right now. He's mapped the buttons on his controller for his PS4. To actually do the show with the tricaster and play Batman at the same time, so impressive, so impressive. Yeah, that's living the dream. Okay so new releases we're done. We're gonna get really quickly to just a couple of user feedbacks. We know we went a little long on our Comicon coverage but we're just excited about the show. So let's talk about your user feedback. [MUSIC] All right, so we asked you guys yesterday, please #TDWedBots. Tell us about the freshly married couple, robot couple in Japan, and what you would get them as a wedding gift because really what do you get for the robot couple who seemingly has everything. I'm just gonna read two. First up, studcookie, which I picked because I really like that handle, it's funny. It says, one can never have too much RAM. Aw. Yeah. Extra RAM. That's a great gift. A great gift. Right. If I had more random access memory in my relationship, I feel like I'd be doing a much better job. Yeah. We do multitask more. Yeah. Lot's more multi-tasking. Consider her feelings and mine. At the same time. At the same time. Not just one at a time, that would be amazing. Just one or the other. Jason wrote in and said oil and access to the beta of Skynet. Not good. That's a terrible gift idea. We hate you, Jason. The oil, maybe, the thing is I don't think you want, that's not a mechanical robot. I think there's like actual circuits in there and stuff. I wouldn't nitpick on that. Yeah, but the Skynet thing maybe. Yeah. Just I don't know. Maybe not a great idea so I'm just saying, think about that. Maybe just think twice. Get him a gift card, a Visa gift card, good, better idea. We'll read more of your responses tomorrow because I'm sure there will be more but we'll also have your Comicon comments as well. Canada, which is in the beautiful Ok and again, Valley, I hope I got that right. It reminds me of a saying, there is light just around the corner. Aw, wow. That's really nice. You should put it on text over the picture. Right in the bottom there. Yeah, there is light, just around the corner. No, that's really nice. That actually reminded. Literally like a great computer wallpaper, like a really nice landscape they can use. Put all your icons up in the blue, keep everything. I think it looks great, looks really good.
