>> Hi, I'm Will Greenwald assistant editor at CNET.com and this is the Panasonic PVGS80 and PVGS85 digital camcorders. These are two budget mini DVD camcorders they use tapes they're not very fancy and they're not very expensive either. They look almost identical and that's because honestly, they are pretty much almost identical. T hey both have sub mega pixel sensors 32X optical zoom lenses with optical image stabilization, wide screen flip out LCDs, and they both record to mini DVD tapes. Now the big difference between the GS80 and the GS85 is support for still images. Now this can technically take still images by freezing its image onto the tape for a couple of seconds, but the 85 is what really is made for taking still images because it has an SD card slot so you can actually take photos instead of taking a freeze frame and having to rip it from your tape anyway. Now, it also has another feature, which is very appreciated compared to the 80 a video light. Now, the video light is really handy because budget camcorders typically aren't very good for shooting in low light. Now, unfortunately because these two cameras have relatively small sub mega pixel sensor and that they're budget models the video quality isn't great. They're pretty much what you can expect from budget camcorders. On the other hand, if you just want a camcorder to take on the holidays on vacation to take videos of your kids these might be a good choice. Between the two, I would definitely recommend spending the little extra for the 85 because the video light end, even though you might not use it the SD card support for still images. I'm Will Greenwald and these are the Panasonic PDGS 80 and 85.
