Nolah Original Hybrid Mattress Review: Reasons to Buy or Not Buy

Speaker 1: Hey guys, I'm JD with CNET Home and Nola recently put out an original hybrid mattress. It's basically their flagship bed with coils. That original mattress has been available in two different all foam versions, but this is a true hybrid mattress with support coils on the bottom. So in this video, we're going to review this mattress for you in depth. And just so you know, we received it for free over here to review so we could test it out and tell you guys all about it. But you should be getting completely free bed in a box shipping [00:00:30] with this mattress to start. So it's going to arrive in a big box. It's around like four feet tall. You just drag that sucker in your home and unbox it, and if you have a friend there to help you out, the process goes by super quick and easy.
Speaker 1: Once the mattress is in your possession, you get 120 nights to try it out at home risk-free before you're stuck with it. And this is basically your time to see if the mattress is going to be suitable for your sleeping preferences. And if it's not for whatever reason within that timeframe, that first four months, you can send it back for completely free Nola as a brand might ask you to try it out for at least a full month before you make your final decision here. That's just the nature of the beast when you're [00:01:00] adapting to a brand new bed. They want you to give it a real college try. But if that happens, you still have those free returns. But if the opposite occurs and you end up loving the new NOLA original hybrid mattress, that's great. Speaker 1: Well, the NOLA Original hybrid is made right here in the States. If you care about getting American source products, all the materials used within this mattress are CER to pure US certified. That basically means that all the elements within this mattress are made in a non-toxic and ethical way. And NOLA as a brand does a pretty good job at using recycled materials within this mattress, [00:01:30] which you'll see in a bit here. So on the bottom there's a recycled fiber pad to serve as the bed's main base layer. Above that, you have the bed's main support system of eight inch recycled steel coils, and they're actually reinforced along the edges and feature a little bit of a zone support design. More on that in a bit here. Above those coils, there's a more responsive transitional layer to act as a buffer between all those coils and the bed's main comfort layer of NOLA Air foam.
Speaker 1: This is basically a more pressure relieving softer comfort foam that is proprietary to nola. Wrapping the mattress up is a nice tensile blend cover and that incorporates some additional comfort [00:02:00] elements that are quilted into the mattress. Now, in the past, many of the other NOLA, all foam mattresses have had more of a blended foam field due to that NOLA Air foam on top, a little bit about it, it's almost like a cross between a neutral and a memory foam. So you get the best of both worlds in terms of support and pressure relief. But the coils underneath on the NOLA original hybrid give this mattress more of a neutral hybrid feel. Overall, simply put, I think a lot of sleepers are going to hop on this mattress and find it to be generally comfortable. That main comfort layer of NOLA Air foam gives the mattress tons of pressure relief, while the more supportive coil unit on the bottom [00:02:30] gives you a lot of pushback and resistance.
Speaker 1: Overall, it just presents a really neutral style of hybrid feel that I think a lot of sleepers are going to be able to get down with. Firmness wise, I think it's right around a medium on our scale should be a great option for all sleeper and body types since it does utilize those coils on the bottom. If you're a much heavier person, you might sink into this mattress and find it to be a little bit softer than a true medium on scale. I personally am a little bit heavier and I found it to be right around like that in a medium soft, but it should work for all sleeper types, just fine back stomach, and especially side sleepers looking for a bit more [00:03:00] pressure relief than your average hybrid bed furnace is a really subjective thing. It varies on a case by case basis and it usually depends on how much you weigh.

One interesting thing about the NOLA original hybrid is its zone support feature that can be found within the coil unit. So the coils within the center third of the bed are right in the middle, are designed to be a bit more supportive under your lower back and trunk.
Speaker 1: And this design in turn makes it especially beneficial for those who suffer from chronic back pain. It's just there to keep your back more neutrally aligned at night. This is something that you're not going to immediately notice on the mattress, probably it's a super subtle thing, but if you do suffer from nightly back pain or something like that, this could be [00:04:00] especially beneficial for you in the long run. In terms of stuff that couples might want to know, like edge support, motion isolation, and temperature regulation. Let's cover that stuff. Now in terms of edge support, I did mention that the coils along the edges of this mattress are reinforced, which provides the bed with some solid edge support. I think you're going to get close to the edges of this mattress and find a lot of stability. So no real issues here in terms of motional isolation. It's also pretty good on the NOLA Original hybrid. The main layer of that NOLA Air foam is really pressure relieving and soft, and it does deaden
Speaker 2: Quite a bit of cross mattress movement. So if [00:04:30] your partner's in especially Light Sleeper who's easily woken up at night by your movement, I don't think you're going to have much of an issue on this mattress. In terms of temperature regulation, lots of other mattresses within the online space are active cooling options, and this one, we would clock at a temperature neutral on our scale. NOLA advertises this mattress to have some super breathable cooling features, but we think it just makes the bed sleep pretty much neutral across the board. Lots of other things kind of contribute to temperature regulation a bit more than the actual bed itself, like how hot you're keeping your room, the types of sheets you have. Speaker 2: Now let's talk pricing. How much are you going to be shelling out for this mattress when all is said and done? We usually like to keep that stuff current, but as of when I'm recording this video, I'm seeing the queen size priced it right around the 17 $50 mark for the queen size M S R P. I think you're going to be paying right around the $1,100 range, which is a great value for an online hybrid bed these days as a brand.
