[ Music ] ^M00:00:03 >> Hi. I'm Kent German, senior editor here at CNET.com. Today we're gonna take a First Look at the Nokia 5800 Express Music. This is a new phone that Nokia announced a few months ago. It is one of their very first touchscreen phones. This is not a final production device. It has initial software, so we haven't given this a rating yet, but I can say from what I see I do like so far. Like a lot of touchscreen phones, it has a candy bar shape with a big display right in the middle and just a few controls down at the bottom. This display is very nice. It's very bright, very colorful, shows graphics well, shows photos well. Menus are easy to get through, but as a touchscreen phone. That means you will have to use your finger most of the time to get through things. There's also a stylus that's located in the slot right here. Also you'll need to touch the screen to move up and down through long lists. To get to the phone dial, you press this icon right there. Has pretty large keys; the numbers are pretty easy to see. The only thing that I didn't like, though, on these numeric keys, there's not the corresponding letters that you'd find on almost any other phone. Hopefully Nokia changes that in the final version because that is not very user-friendly at all. Also on the display, you have some shortcut icons appear. You can also put a couple favorite contacts there. And you can get a one-touch access to your contact list as well. The keyboard for typing messages and emails is pretty big. I found it pretty spacious. Keys are pretty large. It's a separate keyboard for symbols and numbers, and then you can also use the graffiti applications to enter any messages. And you can also use a standard numeric keypad that does have the letters on it on the numbers. Music player is pretty similar to what you'd find on other Nokia N series phones. It does show [inaudible] with a fair set of features. Sound quality was pretty good. There's a 3.2-megapixel camera. Photo quality was pretty good, had a nice set of options in the camera. You also find Bluetooth, personal organizer applications, voice dialing, a speakerphone. It does have Wi-Fi, so you can connect with a wireless system for getting on the browser. Comes with a couple great accessories. One is a stand. And I really like this. It's this little plastic thing you put on the table. And you can put the phone like that. And you can use it to maybe watch a video. You can use it to play music. So overall, very promising phone. Really like the features, like the design. It was user friendly. It was pretty intuitive. I did test the call quality just a little bit. It seemed to be okay. The speakerphone quality -- wasn't too pleased with it yet, but hopefully that will change. But a great phone for people that like Nokia, want that touchscreen phone, and very promising. I look forward to seeing the final version. I'm Kent German. This is the Nokia 5800 Express Music. ^M00:02:31 [ Music ]
