^B00:00:00 [ Music ] ^M00:00:06>>Welcome back to Crossfade TV where each week we feature the best of songs from our site music.download.com. I'm Kurt Wolff and this week my pick is a new collection from Nina Simone. It's called "Protest Anthology." ^M00:00:17 [ Music ] We're in the middle of a revolution because I see the face of things to come. ^M00:00:26 [ Music fades to background ] >>Kurt: Nina Simone's music was a hybrid of jazz, soul, folk, gospel and blues. She was trained as a classical pianist but she also did amazing versions of songs by the likes of Screaming Jay Hawkins and the Beatles. Some of her best known songs, though, were those written during the Civil Rights era such as the one we have for free download on the site right now: ^ITRevolution.^NO ^M00:00:45 [ Music ] It's gonna be alright. Everything's gonna be alright. ^M00:00:53 [ Music fades to background ]>>Kurt: ^ITRevolution^NO is one of eleven previously unreleased live tracks on "Protest Anthology" along with ^IT Strange Fruit, To Be Young Gifted and Black, ^NO and the infamous ^IT Mississippi Goddamn.^NO ^M00:01:03 The elections have made me lose my rest. And everybody knows about Mississippi Goddam. ^M00:01:13 >>Kurt: The collection came out this week but don't look for it in stores as it's only available digitally. Four more collections of unreleased Nina Simone songs are on their way as well so stay tuned. ^M00:01:22 >>Hey this is Peter Gavin and my pick this week is Sun Kil Moon. They just released their third album called "April" and here's one of my favorite tracks called ^IT Moorestown. ^NO ^M00:01:28 [ Music ] If the cascading soft lights are glowing for us...^NO ^M00:01:41 [ Music fades to background ]>>Peter: If you're not familiar with Mark Kozelek, well it's about time you check him out. He's considered the godfather of indie rock to some and he's put out six albums with the Red House Painters, several solo releases, and now he's sticking with the name Sun Kil Moon. The new album features guests including Bonnie Prince Billy and if you listen to the high harmonies on the track ^IT Lost Verses, ^NO you'll hear Ben Gibbard from Death Cab For Cutie. ^M00:01:59 [ Music ] I see you well and clear >>Deep in the moonlight dear. ^M00:02:06 >>Peter: Mark was just here at CNET last week for a rare interview and performance. He doesn't do them very often so we were honored to have him in. Check out that podcast at studioc.cnet.com and listen to the new Sun Kil Moon on our site. ^M00:02:18 >>Hey, what's up everyone? I'm Angie and this week I thought I'd pick a local favorite of mine. His name is Ed Garo and goes under the moniker UFO!, not to be confused with the 70's metal outfit, UFO. However, after listening to a few songs off of Ed's record "Logic and Lunacy" I have a feeling he may have had them in mind. Check out the last few seconds of ^ITelephone. ^NO ^M00:02:38 [ Music ] [inaudible] ^M00:02:43 >>Angie: UFO! is widely acknowledged as one of the key players of the West Coast drum and bass scene. You won't hear any drum and bass on his new album, but you will hear the drum and base veteran explore vocal territories for the first time. Check out the song ^IT We Keep On^NO showcasing UFO!'s electro pop vocals. ^M00:03:00 [ Music ] You will never [unaudible] I'll hold you in my arms til the end of time. ^M00:03:07 >>Angie: We have the two songs you just heard plus another bonus track for free download. Just make sure you search for UFO! with an exclamation point at the end on music.download.com. ^M00:03:16 [ Music ] [inaudible] I'll hold you in my arms til the end of time. ^M00:03:21
