There has been a tragic loss in the world of Monopoly.
The iconic thimble will not pass go and is being removed to make way for a new game piece.
As voted on by fans.
lat month, Hasbro rolled the dice and gave the internet the power to decide which game tokens stay and which new ones join the classic game.
4 million votes were cast during the month long contest where people could choose to keep the current pieces, like the top hat or shoe, or bring in a new token from 50 other options.
Some were tech centric, like a cell phone, a hashtag, or emoji faces.
But most were just quirky, like a tyrannosaurus rex and fuzzy bunny slippers.
Hasbro is not revealing which new piece has won the contest, we have to wait until March 19th for the made up holiday of World Monopoly Day, to find out which token is replacing the thimble in the next generation of the game.
And that new game will be sold in stores this August.
The thimble may have lost it's shine with modern players but the sewing tool was very common when the game first came out in 1935.
Hasbro is not closing the door completely on any game piece making a return but if you want to grab the thimble before it's gone, there is a Monopoly Token Madness addition that has Eight current tokens and eight of the new contenders.
I'm calling it now, if the hashtag token wins there is going to be rioting.
