One of the things that you've talked a lot about and your president Brad Smith has talked a lot about is the responsibility of the tech industry right now.
I want to ask you one layer of that is who you do business with.
Obviously, Microsoft had an internal conversation of whether to do business with ICE.
And there's a big conversation right now in the tech industry about whether we can keep doing business with Saudi Arabia.
Tell me your Philosophy of who Microsoft can do business with and who Microsoft can't in this era where you want to take a leadership role in responsibility.
Yeah, we stopped from saying look, we want to take technology and empower the world with it.
We want to empower, our mission is to empower every person in every organization.
Although we're planning to achieve more and that's at the center of how we approach things.
That said we have the responsibility to ensure that what technology we provide is being used for good.
Mm-hm.
So for example, when we open a data center, let's say, in any country.
One of the foundational things that we go through is an evaluation of the humanitarian infrastructure in there.
In the sense, what's the law?
What are the practices of the government?
And unless and until we are comfortable That are enduring values which are grounded for frankly, in the American values and the global norms.
In fact, the United Nations adopted instead of global norms around human rights.
And so all of that play an actual role in the practice of how we make a decision.
Okay.
Whether we open a data center or not.
So let's be specific.
Where is some place you have closed one or where you wouldn't open one?
Well for example we don't, right now we don't have consumer data in the Chinese data centers.
Is that your choice or their choice?
It's our choice.
If you want to you can obviously go and sort of say when it comes to consumer data.
Mm-hm.
We have open data centers under Chinese law with a third party for Chinese companies to go use our Cloud infrastructure.
So we want to make choices based on what is it that we will directly get involved in is something that we are absolutely transparent about.
