Culture
[MUSIC] Good Morning citizens of the internet, welcome to tomorrow daily, the best new talk show in the known universe, until August 18th when we will close down the show. I'm Ashley Esqueda>> And I'm Jeff Cannata, we've got you until then though, with headlines. We do. Let's imagine a future together in which robot spiders make our furniture. A thesis project from Maria Yablonina is doing that exact thing shrinking the scale of a structure down enough to allow two small robots to roll around your walls and make carbon fiber structures that look a lot like spider web The system is called the mobile robotic fabrication system for filament structure. The robots use vacuum suction to move around on walls and connect strings of carbon fiber to anchors. The robots can be grouped into swarms to work together faster or a single robot can work on a job. Future applications could include custom furniture or even structures that cross between high rise buildings like scaffolding for construction crews. Sorry I'm not home right now, a spider is making my home right now. Yeah, yeah exactly. That is amazing. It's really weird looking, but I also love the idea of having robots make me a hammock in my house- Yeah. At any time on demand. Make me a hammock. That's what I would. And then you could imagine like this sort of Iron Man future where we go from big structures to small things like clothes. Yeah. And you're just like, I'd like some gloves. Weave me, yeah, hey, Robot, weave me a t-shirt today. This is what I want it to look like. And they just make it for you. And it's- Hey, robot. Maybe a sandwich. That's the dream. We probably seen this concept a bunch, but now it's real. China's elevated bus, TEB1, made it's maiden test voyage recently. This is a massive bus that holds around 300 passengers and can ride over the top of cars. It's a massive machine spanning two lanes of traffic and measuring 22 meters long. Eight meters wide, and seven meters high. The idea is simple. The bus as a hollow section under its passengers that allow it to bypass regular cars sitting in traffic, leading to less congestion on China's packed roads. We saw the original idea in a scale model at the China Beijing International, High tech expo earlier this year but it looks like the project is moving forward faster than we anticipated and other governments with congested road ways are already investing in this mega bus. Yeah. It's cool, man. Can you imagine driving your car in the freeway and all of a sudden there's massive bus [LAUGH] It freaks me out so much. But how great would it be that if that mass transit actually, like buses, you're in the bus and it's nice to be driving but you still sitting in traffic. You're still sitting in traffic. What if the bus actually gives you A- Better commute. Better. Yes! Made it shorter. This is really the thing. And we see sometimes these sort of special bus lanes and things like that. But this doesn't need extra infrastructure. Exactly. You basically just need a road that is strong enough to hold the weight of a Giant bus that carries 300 people in it. Yeah. And a subway or a train can bypass traffic too but you need to build a railway. Extra infrastructure, exactly. This is something that can be implemented a lot sooner and faster which is really, really cool. I guess you just have to make sure there's not Stuff that's too low, you know. Yeah. Lineage, funnels. I think it's two meters, is the limit underneath. So their cars that are over two meters, or trucks can't go under there. And then also anything else that the bus needs to pass over has to be beneath two meters high. It's like the monster truck of busses. It is it's sort of the what's the most famous monster truck? I don't know. Is it Frankenstein. Yeah. I dont know. Anyway listen guys I don't know monster trucks I do know Sunday Sunday SUnday. The other thing I know is #HEYTD which is our hashtag for you to took about what we just discussed. We'd love to hear your comments on these episodes and on these topics and that's how we know on the Twitters that you're talking to us. Extra and so since we're not doing a long show this week, let's just get ready to our phonetographer for today. All right. [MUSIC] It's grave digger. The most famous monster Shrek. Grave digger, not Frankenstein. Films like horror series, no. It's grave digger. That's gold digger bus. Okay. Phone photo of the day. Today's phonetographer is Gehrig who took picture with an iPhone 6. Gehrig, right? Hey TV crew, my name is Gehrig. Pronounced like the last name of Lou Gehrig the baseball player and I took this picture with my iPhone 6 while on a trip to Washington DC. It's a panorama showing the trees and Washington Monument reflecting over this pool of water. It's unedited other than some slight cropping and I hope you like it. I give you permission to use this photo on the show and hopefully this will be my first [UNKNOWN] [INAUDIBLE]. First feared? He means featured. Maybe, listen guys, autocrats can be really terrible at times. Maybe they want to, they meant to instill fear to the hearts of our viewers. Perhaps. Because it is really good. It's really good. So you should be afraid that this guy's gonna be the photographer. But you can possibly be the best phone photographer in our last stretch of episode. We want you to send in the best. Follow you've ever take it. You bet and you're gonna e-mail it to tomorrow at cnet.com. We love to have that. Make sure you tell us how to pronounce your name like Kara did. We will appreciate that. Very well done heard. Tell us a little story about why you think that is your best picture ever Make sure you give us permission to use it on the show, and tell us what device you used to take the photo. Yes, because we're nerds. We are. And you can also find us on social media. Like I said yesterday, we're gonna be spinning down Tomorrow Daily social media, so go follow CNet on social media, cuz you're gonna see what we're doing next via that channel. And also our personal social media channels, which On most of them we are at [UNKNOWN] It's neat. Pretty easy stuff. We will be back tomorrow with a short episode of brand new docket of weird science fact meeting science fiction. So, until then- Be good humans. See you guys next time. Bye. [MUSIC]
