>> It's T-Mobile Android day -- iPhone who? Plus Samsung releases and Armani phone with lots of bling and the Godfather comes as a digital download. It's Tuesday, September 23rd, I'm Natali Del Conte and it's time to get Loaded. ^M00:00:12 [ Music ] ^M00:00:18 >> Natali: Today is the T-Mobile Android launch. We're heading to the press conference right after we film today's show, but first I want to show you some screen shots of the phone that were leaked on T-Mo's News last night. There have been a lot of sketchy images approximating this phone and these are the most legit [phonetic] we've seen so far. Stay tuned to CNET TV because we'll have footage of the actual phone for you today with all the juicy details, it's a big day in mobile. Book previews are coming courtesy of Google. The company is launching a free set of developer tools and API's that will allow anyone to imbed books from Google Books Search. Sites can display full text search results and even integrate social functions such as ratings and reviews. You'll also be able to zoom in and out of the pages and browse up to 20% of the work. Google hopes that by providing these tools free of charge, authors and publishers will find new avenues of distribution for their work. Look for this functionality to roll out on websites such as Buy.com and Borders in the near future. Time for me to get crackin' on the secret life of Natali Del Conte. Verizon has confirmed that the company will let customers forego a contract and sign-up for a month to month plan. This means no termination fees plus you can get any phone with any plan. The downside is, is that you won't get subsidized phones, so you'll have to pay full price if you're getting a new phone or else use an old phone that you already own. If you're an existing Verizon customer and you want this kind of freedom you'll have to wait until your existing contract ends. AT&T is expanding on its landline service with a new system called AT&T home manager. The service is a 3 piece wireless system with a 7 inch touch-screen that has internet access and traditional wireless phone apps like weather, news, e-mail, etcetera. Because the device is portable, you can use it in different areas of your home, which is useful, for example, if you want to look up a recipe while you're in the kitchen. I could see this idea as the next generation of land-line phones, but it's hard to tell now with so many carriers focused heavily on mobile. If they found a way to throw mobile services into the mix they'd cater to a larger number of customers. You may not care much if the goods you buy on line are stolen, but big retailers do. The House Judiciary Committee is currently reviewing a law that would require on-line retailers like eBay and Overstock to investigate and pull any listings for items that are suspected of being stolen. The eFencing Enforcement Act of 2008 was proposed by brick and mortar retailers such as Wal-Mart and Target. It also makes it a felony if you're caught selling stolen items and gives retailers the right to sue internet companies if no action is taken. If this bill passes it could set a new precedent for eBay. The company is constantly claiming hands-off when it comes to their merchandise, but if they can be held responsible for stolen goods, surely they could be held responsible for counterfeit, which I personally think they should be. It'll be interesting to see what happens. Samsung is launching a new line of Armani phones and they have a lot more -- well -- bling than the first generation. The first generation was really sleek and simple. The new ones have colored borders and look like they belong in a Disco. This phone launches in Europe first so maybe they're going for that Euro-trash look? But it's got that Armani logo if that's important to you. It also has built-in FM radio, a 3 point 2 megapixel camera, 120 megs of built-in memory, an OLED screen, and runs on 3G. It launches in Europe in November and then in Asia and the Middle East shortly after but there's no indication that it'll come to North America any time soon. Our parent company CBS launched iMobile for iPhone this week. This is a free application that lets you capture news and send it along to us so that we can report it to the world. The program lets you submit photos and videos to CBS's Citizen Journalism site, CBSimobile.com. You can also comment on other people's up-loads. Unfortunately, I don't suspect we'll get many videos from the iPhone application since the iPhone doesn't even take videos. You could always jailbreak your iPhone if you really want to send us video, but I don't suggest that. It looks like the operating system for your Trio won't get an update until the second half of 2009. We originally thought that Palm would update their Palm OS 2 sometime early next year but now it looks like they're running even further behind schedule. Most users agree that Palm has been desperately behind the times in the mobile world lately. The Centro was a big hit for them and it's smart that the new Trio Pro runs Windows, but they need a homerun especially after the PalmFolio -- remember that? If not -- best to forget. The Boy Genius Report is speculating that Apple may soon allow in-home activations of the 3G iPhone. This is not totally free and clear though, the new system would allow you to set up billing from your home and then complete the activation after going to the store for the actual phone, so it would still mean that you can't leave the store with a phone unless it's activated. The up-side to this is that it speeds up the whole process so that you don't have to make small talk with an Apple store employee for quite so long while iTunes verifies your credit card. Godfather fans this one's for you. Starting today you can now own the entire Godfather trilogy digitally. Paramount Pictures has released the movies for sale on iTunes, Amazon, Sony Playstation Network, and others, they cost $9.99 each. These are not HD downloads but remember the trilogy is also available in Blu-ray if high definition mob violence is a priority for you. Those are all your headlines for today, but I will be back tomorrow with more. Thank you for watching. I'm Natali Del Conte with CNET TV and you've just been Loaded. ^M00:05:13 [ Music ]
