LG G7 vs. Galaxy S9: Design and hardware comparison

Phones
Hey everybody, we're here with the newly announced LG G7. And the Samsung Galaxy S9. And we're going to give you a quick side-by-side comparison on the designs of both flagship phones. [MUSIC] So the first thing you'll notice on the front is that the LG G7 has a notch. That's on some Android phones, it's on the [UNKNOWN] 20 and the upcoming One Plus Six but it was popularized by the iPhone. iPhone X. On the G7 you can actually turn it off and it'll blacken out the sides. There's also a floating bar here, which isn't working right now. But that one gives you quick access to your contacts, your music player, and some screen shot settings. You'll also noticed really thin bezels, and overall it's tall, it's slim, and it feels really good in the hand. Over here I've got the Galaxy S9, there's no notch at the top. Samsung has definitely not embraced that yet, though there are rumours that it might one day, but not on this phone. There's a tab you can pull out on the side that has some of the same features as the G7, shortcut to apps, to people, to programs that you use the most. Physically, it looks smaller than the LGG7 with this beautiful curved sides that come around both edges. It is also taller and narrower, also feels very good in the hand and I just love the edge design, but it's definitely not something that you have to have. Now let's move on to the back. So on the back of the G7 you notice that there's vertically stacked Dual rear cameras. Both are 16 megapixel. Underneath you'll notice that there is a fingerprint reader, and unlike past years it's just a fingerprint reader. It's not a power or sleep button. Also the back is kind of a fingerprint magnet. You'll see that as I touch it you can see some of. My prints left behind. The Galaxy S9 has a single camera. This is 12 mp. But there's a trick inside it. It's got an automatic aperture, dual aperture mode. And what that means it that when you get in a low light situation it will automatically optimize setting for a great low light shot. Got a fingerprint reader right below as well. And heart rate monitor that I have frankly never used on a Samsung phone. But it's there. Like the G7, you're very glossy back. It's pretty, it's smeared, and you definitely get that fingerprint smudging. You can see clear oil layers left behind. All right, let's take a look at the bottom of both phones. As you can see, their set up is pretty similar. There's a speaker here, the G7 only has one single speaker, but the rest of the phone acts as a resonance chamber, so it's actually louder than the G6. Then, you'll see a USBC port for charging and file transferring and then on the right, Both phones have a headphone jack. Hallelujah. The only thing the Galaxy S9 adds is a second speaker, here, at the top. We tested it, it's pretty loud, and, of course, we're going to compare the LG G7 audio with the Galaxy S9 audio to see which one is actually the loudest. Alright, moving on, let's talk about the edges. Over here, there's a power button, and on the front there's expandable memory that's also on the SIM card tray and then on the left edge there's a volume rocker and both have a third button here. On the G7, if you tap it, it'll launch the google assistant. So, over here you can ask it how's the weather, or sport's scores And you could also have LJ specific commands like taking a photo with a wide-angle camera. You can also double tap it and that will launch the Google Lens for you to run a image search with the camera. Samsung has this button too, it's called the Bixby button. And when you press it, it launches Samsung's Bixby Software service. This is something that Samsung wants to put on a bunch of it's phones and also home appliances. You do have Google Assistant on the Galaxy S9, but that's separate. This is only Bixby. One thing that bums us out is that these buttons are not programmable on either the LG G7 or on the Galaxy S9. You are stuck with opening Google Assistant and you can't open any other app at this time. Both phones have similar hardware specs, they both have the Snapdragon 845 processor from Qualcomm, they're waterproof, and they have wireless charging. So there you have it. That's a quick rundown on the design between the LG B7 and the Galaxy S9. But stay tuned because we're gonna do a deep dive comparison with a lot more testing. [BLANK_AUDIO]
