>> I'm Dan Ackerman, senior editor at CNET.com, and we are here taking a look at the Lenovo IdeaPad S10. This is Lenovo's long awaited me too entry into the netbook sweepstakes. Lenovo actually announced this over the summer, took a couple of months to start shipping, but it is available now, and at first glance it certainly looks like a netbook. It has a lot of features in common with other netbooks we've seen from Dell, from Asus, from NSI, from Acer. It's got that Intel Atom processor, the one that's specifically designed for these small, low power, low cost, not going to do much more than surf the web and work on web documents processor. It's got a gig of RAM. It's got Windows XP. It does choose sides in the netbook hard drive battle. This goes with regular 5400-RPM platter driven hard drive, 160 gigs in this case, rather than the SSD drives that a lot of other netbooks have. We kind of like the SSD drives because they run cooler. They have no moving parts. And they may be a little bit more reliable if you're taking one of these little laptops, and you're tossing it in you're shoulder bag, and you're running around with it all day. That being said, the IdeaPad S10 does have a couple of unique features that we really, really, really like. Principally, it's got an express card slot. So you can take a half-size express card and stick it in that slot there, and maybe get some mobile broadband action or add any other kind of accessory that you like. And we also like the decent size keyboard, which is about is good as you're gonna get a on a small system like this. Certainly a big improvement over the little finger cramped keys that we saw on the first generation of netbooks. We are, however, less crazy about the three-cell battery that only gave a little bit more than two hours of battery life. Definitely not enough for an on-through-road style system like this. Lenovo promises six-cell batteries in the very near future. Those will, unfortunately, add a little bulk and weight to the back of the laptop. I'm Dan Ackerman, and that's is the Lenovo IdeaPad S10.
