Hi, I'm Lori Grunin and frankly, there's nothing I enjoy more than when a Leica shows up for testing.
This one, the Leica Q2 happens to be the successor to one of my favorite compacts ever, the Leica Q but it's got a much higher resolution sensor and some design tweaks that make it even nicer.
So here we go Okay, see this is the problem [LAUGH] Is doing this backwards.
There we go.
Okay,
[BLANK_AUDIO]
I have to say I love Lyca's packaging.
You're paying $5,000 for this and they make it feel a little more worth it.
[MUSIC]
That, and as you can see, magnets.
Magnets make everything better.
Let's take the camera body out
[MUSIC]
Comes in its own nice cut out which is what you're paying for.
Now, it comes with like its typical lens cap, which is pressure goes right on.
Before we start looking at the camera, let's see what else is in the box.
[BLANK_AUDIO]
Okay, so the little drawers, that's Really kind of cool.
So this one I can tell has the documentation and stuff.
So we'll get to that later.
Because who wants to look at paper?
These are all the accessories.
They come in their own neat little like a bags.
Isn't that cute?
One of the nice things about it is these can double as lens wipes [LAUGH].
But okay, power.
[BLANK_AUDIO]
Have to admit, I can't remember what this ring is for.
It looks like it's for an adapter because it's got a **** mount, but As far as I can tell the [UNKNOWN] doesn't come off on that.
Charger and battery, now this is really neat.
The new design uses the same battery as the Leica SL, which
[BLANK_AUDIO]
Pops right in, oops.
[BLANK_AUDIO]
I happen to think that's a really nice design and it also allows them to keep the camera somewhat weather sealed.
It's not really rugged But you shouldn't have to be scared to be caught in the rain with a $5,000 camera.
And like always, ships with their basic strap.
Personally, I find these cut into my neck.
Which is why you'll always see me with a sling strap.
But Free, Just one thing I want to point out this is a mess isn't it?, The paper work comes with your own little, Any one come with certificate but this little folder which has your serial numbers it's Signed by somebody, this is like a product who's meticulously examined by experienced professionals at several stages of production.
It's nice to know.
And there are some good start guide etc.
But we know enough that we don't need to look at the quick start guide.
We just start putting things together, and then worry.
Although frankly, the guide will probably tell me what this fray is for.
So anyway, on to the camera which is really what we care about.
In addition to the new battery, its got a new card compartment that just slides out Pushes in.
It's not in the battery compartment, which is my least favorite part for a card.
The Q2 now supports UHS2 memory and it now does 4K video.
Unfortunately, you don't gain any continuous shooting speed from it but It's still pretty fast.
I'll get to some of the minutia of the new design, but first I'll say, just like the previous model, it's got an indentation for your thumb, but still it's really a little too heavy to grip.
Without something more substantial up front, One of the really nice things about [UNKNOWN] Lenses is that they come with this little fit so that it's not the camera is not sitting leaning down on the table when you put it down or whatever you put it down on oops
[BLANK_AUDIO]
Sit straight up.
[INAUDIBLE] has only shipped an update in the past year and that was pretty much just sort of what I'll call a stealth version.
Black writing so that the not so flashy camera looks even less flashy So the design has remained the same for a while.
With this, they fixed some of the things, just some tweaks.
For instance, the diopter control, which is a problem for some.
The last model, it used to, in my bag, change itself.
Which is kind of annoying, every time you bring it up to your eye, it's out of focus.
So what they did this time is they made it a little pop out.
So you adjust it and then you push it in, no more accidents.
It's also got fewer buttons on the side.
They switched it, they made it the bare minimum.
And so the autofocus is actually in the menus now.
Finally, another really nice feature is the viewfinder.
It's always been nice.
It's frankly as high resolution, and it's a high resolution OLED that Other cameras are just getting to.
They've changed the optics in it to make the magnification a little more, and you just put it up to your eye, and you're, like, wow.
Because this has a new 47.3 mega pixel sensor, they've also added some crop modes.
I really don't have any doubts about what the image quality is gonna look like, Like it's pretty consistent about that so I am really looking forward to taking this out and shooting
