-Hey, I'm Justin Yu with cnet.com and this is a first look at the HP Photosmart e-All-in-One C310 printer.
This multifunction device is a printer scanner and a copy machine all built in to one and it's a solid performer in terms of speed and output quality, but it does suffer from a single jailbreaking flow and that is the touchscreen on the front, which is the only way to control the printer, and the user interface needs a lot of work.
Before we get to that, though, let's say
what else this printer has to offer.
The front of the printer is bare aside from that screen I just talked about, and a small memory card reader down below for direct printing from a digital camera or a camcorder.
On the back you'll notice that there's this piece sticking out and that's because it's the automatic Duplexer that'll save you money by flipping around the paper, so you can print on both sides.
Unfortunately, though, the C310 e is missing an extra tray on top that would normally help with scanning a stock of documents that's pretty typical for a printer in this price range, so I'm wondering why it's missing.
On the other hand, you do get plenty of extra features by way of the C310's always-on internet connectivity, but you will need a wireless connection to make it work.
So, once you get it set up, you can browse through a whole catalogue of apps in HP's ePrint center, and also access your email-based printing from any internet connective device, but again all of these is done through the touchscreen, which is covered by this thin layer of plastic that actually flexes and bends a lot when you press down on it.
There's also a severe lag between a second you hit a button and
when it actually activates the key.
So, punching in logging ID's and passwords can be a real hustle.
So, plenty of extra features and impressive speed and output performance, the C310 e would be a recommendable printer if it work for this frustrating display.
Once HP corrects this feature, it will change your minds.
But in the meantime, we recommend spending your dollar on a printer with actual physical buttons.
You can read all the details including our final CNET score in the full review, but that's gonna do it for me.
