>> Hi I'm Josh Goldman, senior editor for CNET Reviews and this is a look at the HP Pavilion DV42155 DX. It's a preconfigured retail version of the DV4 in HP's espresso black imprint finish; that while attractive, collects it's share of fingerprints. The laptop is neither thin at 1.6 inches, or all that light at just over 5 pounds, but it's not a back breaker either. There's a very good port and connection assortment around the edges, including HDMI output, combo USB/eSATA port, and express card and memory card slots. Networking options include ethernet, 802.11n WiFi, and support for mobile broadband access with a subscription from AT and T, Verizon, or Sprint. Opening the lid, there's a 14 inch widescreen display powered by Intel's HD graphics, nice sounding stereo speakers, and a descent sized keyboard. This is built as an entertainment PC, and no it doesn't have discreet keys for controlling media. The function keys are clearly labeled. You get a touch strip here for adjusting volume and muting, and there's an included remote that can be stowed in the express card slot. The only real issue we had was the trackpad, which is a little small and the service creates some drag. Inside the 2155 is an Intel Core I3 processor, 4 gigs of memory, and a 320 gig 7200 rpm hard drive. The combo provides a lot of performance pop, but you can't keep it away from an outlet too long. Battery life in our tests was pretty poor; barely breaking the 2 hour mark. Otherwise it's a fairly sound investment, especially if you're interested in anywhere internet access.
