-Hi, I'm Scott Stein, senior associate editor at cnet.com, and this is the HP Mini 1103 Netbook.
I know, netbook.
Well, there's not much we can say to dispel any of your preconceptions about what an Atom netbook is or isn't.
This is a single-core Atom netbook using an N455 Atom processor.
It's a 10-inch screen, 250-gigabyte hard drive, 1 gig of RAM,
and the price, at least, is good 299.
Now, why is this interesting?
HP netbooks have tended to be more expensive than the competition.
So, if you've been in the market for a nice compact netbook that's got a good price, well, this is it.
Just don't expect it to be anything tremendously exciting.
For that 299 price, you're not gonna get great design options.
In fact, it's black, glossy on the back, and matte on the bottom and that's it.
It doesn't have an HDMI port.
It does have everything you basically need including bluetooth which is nice for this budget price and the battery life is great.
It's over 6 hours.
We got 5, almost 6 hours on our battery life test which is among the best for 10-inch netbooks.
What you weren't getting is anything more advanced than that and with smartphones becoming more advanced, tablets becoming increasingly interesting, and with the prices of laptops continuing to drop, is a 299 netbook really an interesting value for you?
You're gonna have to decide that for yourself.
Nevertheless, this one might be worth considering.
