HGTV's Property Brothers take on CES 2019

Tech Industry
[UNKNOWN] This is a new season, we're trying something new for property [UNKNOWN] right now in Las Vegas. 20 hourse in three and a half months. That's a lot of houses in a very short amount of time. Well we are busy. So we are [UNKNOWN] so I wanted to start a [UNKNOWN] with something more tacky you guys last year kicked off something called [UNKNOWN] This is your new e-commerce website Home goods, home furnishings, tell us a little bit about it. It's putting all the focus back on design and designers cuz if you look at our shows everyone else's says they love they see on our shows. But they wished they had us in their homes to help them pull the trigger. So what we've done is we have found, right now we're at 30 designers from across the country who are incredible. And they're creating all of these curated looks ALl different designs, we're putting them into the system, and it helps you make that decision. So that you can curate that within your space, and we have technology that we're rolling out as well, like a sound of studios that we'll help you make those decisions if you're afraid to make the wrong choice. The hardest thing, a lot of people shop online nowadays, but in the home space alot of people still wanna feel the sofa They wanna- Yeah. Feel the bed, the linens before they buy What- So I feel it for you. Yes, we feel is for you. So what happens when us or these other designers that people trust were curating these looks is we're giving people that confidence. If this is something we know would look good in a space, they can click, they can shop. It has your stamp of approval. Cool, and if that's good enough for you guys, it's good enough for us. Every bed we saw on [UNKNOWN] I sleep in it first. Wow. No, that's not true. No, that's not true. [UNKNOWN] lying [UNKNOWN] But it could be. But it's true, I mean it is a big thing, it is a big ticket [UNKNOWN] people are making a big Purchases we want it to be easy cuz we do believe, not only should you love your home but your home should make your life easier. And so that's with all the technology with [UNKNOWN] but also technology in general. You see when you're walking around CES the technology in the home space is probably some of the most exciting because it's actually making your life easier. Another thing too that people have a hard time with online, is sometimes within certain sites when you're shopping It'll give you like a thousand options for a chandelier, nobody can make a decision from that. So with us, with Kazaza as well what you're going to see is you're never going to see the same skew more than once whereas a lot of times you'll have the same one dozens and dozens of times We narrow things down. We have those [UNKNOWN] looks. And also, as we search for [UNKNOWN], we're gonna be moving into our [UNKNOWN] pros which are from the team that can actually come out to your house and work with you to see where you're at, help you with maintainance issues and what not to set you in the right path for enjoying your home. That's really helpful. I know that, like, a lot of times if I'm wanting to remodel a room, or even just buy new furniture, I'm always like scared about something unique or different in the room. I know if I had a little push maybe I would be more willing to experiment a little bit. This looks like a really good way to do it. It definitely would be. One thing [UNKNOWN] is when someones husband tweets us, I wanna tear down this wall [UNKNOWN]? No Not a good thing for him to be your handy man. If you are tweeting the instructional questions, Don't ever touch a tool. But is like one thing, if you are unsure, you are not a designer, you are not a contractor, you don't do this day in and day out, so to be able to have us come in and help you. Make some of this decision. And say that is load bearing wall my friend don't knock that down. Just because somebody dresses like a contractor doesn't mean with are trusting him with a sledgehammer. [LAUGH]. But also here at [UNKNOWN] what we gonna be launching this year launching out is helping you narrow down the aesthetic you love as well of a little bit of AI to help narrow your focus and then eventually we gonna have our technology that we're rolling out in your space you can start to utilize. Your phone just to look at your space, and it will start to implement all the look that you said you like. If it's mid century modern, we'll take pieces from Casasa, and you can see them in your space. That's what's exciting about where technology is now. Augmented realities allowing us to do things that you can sample some things so that you don't have to actually spend to build it before you see what it looks like. AI is helping us help people know what the want, cuz everyone always says, like everyone on property borders I know exactly what I want. No they don't, they think they know what they want and but they only know what they want but they only know what they've been exposed to. The designers that we work within our team, ourselves and these other 30 designers, and we're introducing new designers every other week as well These are people who know what's out there. They've seen everything, they've touched everything and they can help you make the right decisions. Well some of the home owners on the show they do know what they want. These single ladies who ony applied because they know Jonathan is single. They know what they want. They know what they Every episode. Contractor heavy. Yea it ends with a Rosie cermony moiving forward. Yea but we are exited to be back here filming in Las Vegas for 20 episods then we actually go to Toronto for 20 episodes and then next it could be your home, your neighborhood. What else? Speaking of homes you guys have a house That you can, what you're gonna show us a little bit of with a bunch of technology. Well you just invited yourself over so He does that all the time Constantly. I just showed up. It's upsetting. So we gave you guys a little tour of the house to kinda show what sort of renovations that we did there. I believe in designing around convention pieces. There he is, somehow got past our security gate. Yeah. Somehow, he was wearing a shirt, he was like am a contractor [CROSSTALK]. Our cameras mistakenly thought you were me. Yeah, come to the house. Yes, yeah, [UNKNOWN] glasses. The first thing everyone always asks about is the suit of armor that we have. So we're Scottish and we had a suit of armor, a replica made of exactly what it would have looked like that ancestors would have worn back in the day. We have a big sword that's like from Braveheart. It's massive. That's huge. It's taller than the two of you. Yeah, exactly. Seven foot tall, and some of them are authentic swords from Scotland from back in the day, and some of them are replicas of what our ancestors used. Well we have cool things in the house too, but because we love to entertain. So we have a projector out back where the pool is. So if you wanna sit and watch a movie while you're in the hot tub or you're in the pool, we have this 15 foot screen that comes down. Jonathan designed, he built into one of our outdoor light fixtures, that's where the actual projector is. So yeah, we're seeing this right now. So yeah, there's a projector coming down. Look at this projector coming down, wow. This screen is rolling down. Yeah. Are you gonna upgrade this and install that LG wallpaper TV upside down so that it can drop down? Amazing. That would be perfect. That would be phenomenal. Full brightness. There is so much cool tech in the home space, that's what we love I mean we actually did this renovation four years ago it was about four years ago, but even from there it's completely different now, last year we did my house in LA, and Everything is fully automated, everything is fully integrated as well. So I want to be able to freak out my wife when she's at home alone and turn on tvs in the other room. Cuz he's a jerk. Or speak to her, yeah, through our PA system. Whats funny is we just started demolition on a house that was built in 1978, this morning we started. And in the kitchen all of its latest tech from 1978 had an integrated Blender. So you turn a dial on the counter. Wow. Wow. And the actual thing so you just put your blender thing right on it, and the built in can opener. That seems extremely duvious. That was 1978 tech. That seems like a trip to the emergency room waiting to happen. Yeah. It totally is. That's really horrific. Why would you put that in your counter? Especially if you're sitting on the counter. Just right at the counter with no- Yeah, you don't want to sit on the counter. Yeah, that seems Is really good. Also back to your house too you guys installed solar panels on the house. Yes. Yeah. You also have some effort that you did where you use tuff instead of regular classes well, what was the aspects of using more clean energy or green to try to improve things. Tell us a little bit about that. Las Vegas one water is very important you have to conserve as much water as possible but solar we have more sun Than anywhere else. And so we actually have, we have a guesthouse and the main house. Our main house is completely offset with the solar system that we have. And that actually is what sparked me to write a documentary about solar, cuz I don't think people understand where technology is with solar, even from just two, three years ago. Solar has become much cheaper and much more effective. It's interesting to know that you can offset your own cost and depending on what State you live in, it can be quite a bit easier to put solar up. There are so many ways in your home to actually offset cost or to save cost. Working towards renewable energy is very important to us. Anytime we can do something in the home Whether it's just reusing materials, or whether it's recycling materials, donating materials, or trying to get something new like solar that's gonna help offset and work towards a greener planet, we're up for it. I know that you had mentioned turf, and one of the things you had said was this particular turf, is there something special about it- Yeah. That enables you to sort of conserve a little bit more water? The problem in Las Vegas is, if you just have regular grass In the middle of the summer your dogs and your feet can't go out there. You will burn your feet. Well it's synthetic.>> It's synthetic whatever. It's too hot. So we actually have a special sand. The way it works with turf when you lay it down you have to have about two pounds of sand per square foot just to make sure it stays during the winds and the rains and everything. Ours the sand is covered in a polymer much like you have in a diaper so that it absorbs water. So we put on the system just to sprinkle down the grass. It'll cool the surface of the temperature as that water evaporates over the week, and that cools the surface by 40 degrees. Wow. So my dogs who are this big- Can actually- Don't walk out there and burn their little toes. Burn their little toe beans. [CROSSTALK] What a great dog dad. Their little cute toe beans. This is a sell for your single though, so you're Is selling it. Yeah, you know, I can fix you house up. I can walk your dogs. When Jonathan does long walks on that artificial turf out back with his dogs. The funny thing is originally when we were designing the yard, it's just me and my dogs. And I love my dogs. I had the whole yard all setup for the dogs and Drew is like, whoa, whoa. Let me clarify, when we first did the house, this is our Scott family compound, this what we call, as we are family and friends. So I had some say, he had some say we were both paying for the renovation Jonathan is going to give the entire half acre to the dogs. They're this big. I'm like I want something. I want a basketball court, or I want a pool, or something. That's like a wild animal park for a dog though. That's unending freedom. I love my dogs a lot more than Drew, so. Yes. We noticed. Yikes But I mean, it is a great space. We love it. So, I think we have a b-roll of the armor too. I know that is something you guys mentioned. Do we have that? I want to see it because I have not seen it yet. So I am like very excited to get to see it. Wow, wow. Jonathan custom-designed that suit of armor so that he could put it on. Walk around there. If this is Zombie Apocalypse I am totally good. Yes I'm sure out pf the desert of Las Vegas they'll suit you very well. The sword he is holding we actually got that. That was the first one we got when we were ten years old in Scotland from a blacksmith. So all the swords- Wow The bikes, everything are real It's just fascinating i have an old coin collection we have this medieval armour and sword collection its just our nerdy side. thats why every child's dream, you dream big as a kid and that's exactly what it was we we're all about our Scottish heritage. One hundred percent. Even the book that we just put out in the fall. What book? Builder Brothers, what a coincidental segue. My God. [CROSSTALK] It's all about dreaming big and teaching kids that it's okay to dream big and plans don't always go the way you want. Wait, that Drew doesn't have a beard. This is total false advertising. He's an imposter. Give me the Sharpie, give me the Sharpie. Guys, also I just wanna note that The dogs are right here, the little, teeny, tiny dogs. There's Gracie and Chewie. They're in the story. I thought it was so cute, cuz we- And then they're also in the story, right? We did a video, cuz you've got twins. I have identical twin boys, yeah. Yeah, and we did a video for your kids, and they love the book. Sent a book and everything. And then we didn't realize Your daughter was sad. So we're going to send a book to your daughter as well. Yeah, that is so sweet of you guys. Because there's the older sisters too. That's a thing. Very nice. Well these are Ben Rubin's twins, his identical twins. There they are. The builder brothers. Much better hair than Jonathan and I had as a kid. They do have excellent hair. They have great hair. That's them in Asher, and i'm not actually sure which one is which. So there you go. That's all right. [LAUGH] Well one of them you should tell to grow a beard. And so it makes it a lot of easier. Yeah, well we know, seeing from you, that they'll start growing that beard at age five. Perfect, yeah, so it'll be great. So for parents of identical twins, especially, are you guys coming out with another one of these books? Because I do actually read this book to my sons. Very often, they ask for it almost every night. This is the first in the series. So Builder Brothers is the series, and Big Plans is just the first book. So we're already illustrating the second one. Great. And this is something that's just for all kids, boys, girls, as we progress through the different books in the series as well, we have some of the female roles that come through. But it's all about just giving that message, always think big, working together is really important. It's fun, this is the most fun book we've ever written. That's awesome. It's also great for kids under eight. It's also great for dumb adults. Yeah, get it on Amazon. Amazon.com, ding. We got to have the ding. We have the nice wink ding. That would be nice. Ding. Ding. At this point I I really do wonder, how do you guys get to doing all these stuff? Yeah, how do you have time? It so funny, it's almost like this perpertual motion machine when you're identical twins, we divide and conquer everything we do. So when I maybe swinging sledge hammers on side or working there, Drew is working with our production company or something else, and back and forth. So it never stops turning. A lot of people don't realize, we produce a lot of shows that we're not in, in addition to our shows, we have this We just launched the Fox show the sitcom about our lives and we'll be casting for that soon. So there is a lot of fun things. Wait, 2019 is gonna be a very exciting year. I'm gonna say, what's 2019 for the Scotts? I mean, for us is expansion of our production company, our shows, we have [UNKNOWN] Brady Bunch renovation, we're doing the Brady Bunch house. The Brady Bunch renovation house. Exciting. That's right, you guys picked up the Brady Bunch house. Yeah, HGTV bought it and that is one of the most fun renovations for us because it's not just- That's exciting. A regular restoration, we are making the actual home exactly like what you saw on the studio set and a lot of people don't realize the real house When you see the real house on the show that was just the front facade. [INAUDIBLE] The inside was only studio and the inside was a two story home that front facade was this was a split level so we're doing some digging down some extending to make it like a real house. Wow! Will there be a blender in the counter? We definitely will build it in. We're doing everything. The interesting thing about the Brady house if you ever watched the show There was no toilets because back then it was not proper to show a toilet on television. We're actually putting toilets in to the Brady house Because this is a house that somebody will actually have to use afterwards. They'll have to pee in that house Next question Will there be a robot Alice? Okay so Stayed tune. Or maybe John. My God, I feel like maybe I predicted something exiting. I feel like Robot Alice is the way you gotta go, and then it is sort of a hybrid Alice Rosie the Robot. I was just going to say, yes you were talking about this before. So that is good, I am all about the Jetsons and if I can have a Rosie the Robot it would make my whole life so to us within the next hour we will do it. Yea. Ok. Good luck, well I happen to have a scriipt. Well she is really prepared. Find them on she show floor. Find us. The last thing I also wanted to get you to going back to my idential twins because I can't stop talking about. It is all about you. Of course, but no one really chooses to be the parent of idential twins so I was hoping maybe we could end with having you guys give me some advice What should I be doing so that my twins are just as successful? Just as successful as Robert? One note I will give you at least you have the advantage you knew you were having twins. Our mom didn't know I was there. She was told it was one baby. Our heartbeats were in sync. They didn't do an ultrasound, back then you only did it if there was a complication. So he came out With this squish tag because I was sitting on his head in the womb. And then the nurse is like I think there's another one, and my mom said beep. Drew was born with an explixative. Yeah. I would say with your kids I think the important thing as twins is it's okay for them to have their own personalities, and their own traits because sometimes people just like to lump twins together. No. One birthday here, one this or one interest or one sport or whatever. It's okay for them to have things apart but they should realise they will never have a best friend or better friend than their twin. They will always support eachother. Alright, we should cut before I start crying. Boy. [LAUGH] That's so sweet. [UNKNOWN] start talking about his twins. And [UNKNOWN] I can him well. [UNKNOWN] he said [UNKNOWN] His tender on the inside. I am fogging up and I might start crying. But either way, I am really like I'm so thrilled that you guys are here. Yeah, thank you. And I really appreciate having you guys here. Absolutely. Well, we only have a couple of minutes left, so we're gonna do our Property Brothers giveaway, which is, we're actually giving away a Property Brother since there are two of them. Wow, wait, which one? [LAUGH] Which Property Brother, who goes? You're the one that everybody wants. You'll have to duke it out, I don't know. This one can dance, if anybody saw [CROSSTALK] And I'm a great chef. You've got a lot going for you. I mean, it's- This one swings a hammer and Spells like a construction site. But also has cute dogs. That's true. Yeah, I come with dogs. A musk, but with dogs. Thank you. Thank you so much you guys for coming out and talking to us. Really excited. Thanks for having us. Where can we find you online if people want to come chit chat with you on the internet? Yeah, we're very interactive with our fans too, and actually if you notice if you hit us up on social media we're always adapting our shows because we listen to you. So Mr. Silver Scott, Silver is his middle name Mr. [UNKNOWN] on social media. And if you wanna checkout [UNKNOWN] And [UNKNOWN] And [CROSSTALK] there's so much you can check out
