>> Hey everyone I'm Molly Wood and welcome to the CNET Mailbag. Peter John I'm sorry to say that NBC is not returning my calls but thank you to all of you who sent e-mails to our new address mailbag@cnet.com. Keep those questions and feedback coming. Our first question in fact comes from the first viewer who e-mailed us. Andrews says, "If I were to search for a product that comes in multiple colors, say an iPod nano, I would get a result for each color and in this case each storage capacity. This ends up being 6 results for the same review which is a little confusing. If reviews for a product came up as a one result per product, that would be much less confusing. Well Andrew we went right to the source for this one. Dan Baran is our Director of Catalog Development and he is working on the answer.
>> Dan Baran: The issue is that it's hard to differentiate between two products especially when you're looking at multiple iterations of the Lenovo T61 notebook or something where every different RAM configuration, every different hard drive configuration can potentially show up as a different line item. What we're going to do in the future very shortly is start associating the content that our editors produce to metadata, the so called middle layer that sits between the content that you read on the site and the catalog of products that you browse through. This will allow us in an automated way to say all right what's the best most likely one the people are gonna be wanting to view at that moment. and surface that one instead of all of them.
>> Molly Wood: I think the short answer is "We're working on it." And now for a new segment I think you'll all enjoy--Hater Mail. Notes reader says: "Molly Woods sucks. Get her out of the CNET TV." Molly Woods may suck but Molly Wood is awesome. E. Ruiz says: "Tom Merritt you are not John Stewart of the Daily Show, please give up this dream as is will never come true." J. Thundle says of CNET TV: "Your site is completely useless to somebody with me like flash." Yes that's true. How do you not have flash, dude? Everybody has flash. But then the lover mails come in and make it all worth while.
>> Lover mail.
>> General Amadeus says.
>> I just wanted to let you know that the new CNET TV is simply brilliant. The work of genius. This is one of the best organized, most functional and most useful pages on the Internets. Good job.
>> I think I'm in love. That's it for this week's edition of the CNET Mailbag. Keep your feedback coming. Mailbag@cnet.com or send me a postcard, 235 Second Street, San Francisco, California 94105. See you later alligators.
