Google's developers conference
-- --
This was a big week for Google and San Francisco as it rolled out a flurry of products and even include some extreme keynote -- from its co-founder Sergey Brin.
I'm Dan Farber and I'm joined by CNET senior correspondent Stephen -- on.
What was the atmosphere there didn't seem like it was really crazy with -- -- sky divers and propellers.
On the Moscone Center it was a big show I've been to a lot of Google says have been a lot of keynotes.
This one had.
Over the top drama there -- people you know where it.
But -- sky divers going to die don't get that kind of emotional engagement notes so don't get it Apple showed that for sure you know if Microsoft show.
So it had a very different flavor.
Fun in a lot of ways people were rowly.
Really enthusiastic. But with enthusiastic about more than this guy that had yet -- fundamentally in order to have a good trade show you have to have -- is active solid information people -- interest in finding out about and Google that in -- we had.
Jelly bean which is Android four point one but lot of new features are -- felt like -- and how does that compare to.
Apple's mail us at this point -- and where it's it's definitely you know steadily more.
On reasonable competitor islands I think violence is still.
The market leader in a lot of ways but Google is pushing ahead for example the notifications that are now much more active.
In Android that was an advantage that Android had over -- before you know even more active Google now.
A feature I think it's actually perhaps the most interesting one that plugs into your calendar into your location in two.
You know everything you do and it.
Feeds you information it thinks you might need and that's a very Google the ways of looking at what a mobile phone can do for use so -- the real features that are that are coming out to people.
Now -- since it.
The big difference this -- at that Google is turning to more hardware company they introduced the nexus seven which has set its tablet introduced -- XSQ which says entertainment -- device that is just more of what will we should expect to see Google in the future.
I think it's not clear exactly which -- they're going to go to -- -- -- I think there are still trying to navigate some very choppy waters about whether they are.
The -- you know Android hardware supplier of choice -- whether they're just one of many.
Clearly if you're an Android hardware company you've got be really concerned when Google is competing directly with -- --
That you know that's can be big tension in the future but they're not afraid to do it Google I think fundamentally is much more about looking at the world and seeing where can technology -- where -- we make a difference.
And if they have to make hardware to do it.
So via that's where for example project plus comes in that was very entry -- high interest idolized let's talk about project class -- glasses that.
You can navigate -- world with ten and I think that is that's protecting brand.
I got onstage and talked -- the classes and said that they would be available to consumers -- fourteen but this is something consumers would really want to know so here's what it is today there in a computer has gone says they have you know process and then basically a lot of re purpose mobile phone technology.
Got guitars topics answering your -- and you put your head up to turn it on it's got a little tiny screen hovers right above your eyes.
Notifications please video.
Things like that so if they're trying to gradually.
You can use these to introduce more information into your life which is what Google loves to do.
And done an excellent camera -- and take pictures which is there you know but he will -- though will they sell no millions and millions on warranty and 281.
So next year they're gonna sell to developers for 15100 bucks I think that.
You know they're only in very enthusiast kind of been an audience this is -- central and I do not think it's going to be something most people are going to act we want for -- --
Now it could be you know that five years from now ten years from now it's just like.
You know Bluetooth headset on steroids and everybody just think that most normal thing and that's obviously Google's vision.
You know to sell this but I think a lot of people look at this and --
-- what I look like -- -- and you know -- this would just interfere with my life -- -- one more electronic screens constantly telling -- what's going on little.
Your -- speaking to media -- -- meet somebody.
You know I think -- -- technology people will be very enthusiastic about it a lot more work to win over mainstream consumers.
Could be it might -- a few decades but the arguments that Google is going to have its way.
What exactly is Google it seems -- mean and if you look at all the places therein for example they just started and Amazon they.
New cloud service for developers.
-- -- -- -- --
Well I mean Microsoft was willing to -- a lot of different companies they got rained and slapped down a lot in the 1990s with antitrust action that kind of about.
You know.
With is I think is chilling to Microsoft and Google has been slapped down by some antitrust. Monopoly kinds of concerns but.
It seems to need to be not daunted are deterred at all. It's got a very broad ambitions do lots of things used to be just search engine.
It looks to be right now that they just really have no limits.
On what they want to do so I think that -- are willing to commune with compete with -- anybody.
And everybody Amazon you mentioned -- now if you know its cloud computing service that it's much more directly with Amazon which is very popular.
-- on the complete other side of the spectrum sales significantly. Improved Google play if you want to buy movies -- you want to rent.
You know full season of some TV show and subscribe to magazines that straight down what Amazon is trying to do of course Apple does the night and so.
Yes Google is very willing to beat anybody and -- -- -- including its own partners.
And they just on Motorola exactly -- competing with -- -- competing with partners like Samsung and other Android but thanks -- yes thank you.
I -- talking to Stephen -- when I'm Dan Farber export.
