Google's self driving cars can not take us to work yet, but Google is working on a more practical solution for today, a better way to carpool.
Google's Waze app is starting to test a carpooling service in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Millions of people use the navigation app for traffic alerts and warnings about accidents or speed traps along a route.
But now some drivers in the pilot program will have the option to pick up one rider along their way to work.
And the app will calculate the best passenger based on start and end points and commute time.
The one rider would need to download a separate app.
It's called Ways Rider.
If you jump into a carpool you'll be paying the driver a small Small fee per mile, maybe something like 50 cents a mile to compensate for gas and driving expenses.
Google purchased Wayz back in 2013 for $1 billion.
And with this update, Google has now jumped into the ride sharing business and is merging into Uber's lane.
That's it for this tech news update.
