Facebook is fighting back against revenge porn.
The social network announced it would be ramping up its efforts to protect victims of revenge porn by introducing new tools.
The technology uses photo matching to scan and spot intimate images that have already been reported and removed.
In addition, the user attempting to upload or share the image will be warned the picture violates its policy.
Also, come on people.
Don't go around posting your ex's dirty picture from Snap Chat.
That's just rude.
The tool was announced just days after actress Mischa Barton held a press conference to discuss her legal fight an ex she claimed recorded a sex tape without her consent.
Facebook said the photo matching service will work across its social medial sites, so anything reported on Facebook would hypothetically get flagged on Instagram and Messenger.
Company Head of Global Safety, Antigone Davis, explained why Facebook created these new policies and tools in an official post.
Stating, quote, these tools, developed in partnership with safety experts, are one example of the potential technology has to keep people safe.
Facebook is in a unique position to prevent harm, one of our five areas focus as we help build a global community, unquote.
The company spent months.
Is consulting with security experts nd organisations around the world nd they also seem pretty confident they can protect its users from such sensitive crimes, at least on its own website.
