Hi, Im Molly Wood, and Im here to show you how to create mapping shortcuts on your Droid.
This tip gives you fast and easy access to locations you often map. Like, you could create one for
home, so that if youre out and about to unfamiliar places, youve got one or two-click access to
navigate back to your house. Or if, like one of my colleagues, youre expecting a baby, you can
map the hospital and put that on your homescreen right up top. This tip works with any phone
running Android 2.0 or above, with GPS so, at this point, mainly the Droid. Heres what to do.
Press and hold the home screen and then choose Shortcuts from the menu that pops up. Now,
this menu offers a LOT of handy tools, but for right now, well choose Directions. On the screen
that pops up, just enter the address, and you must have Turn by Turn enabled. You can choose
a special little icon for it, like coffee cup, heart, laptop, I dont know. These are silly, but
whatever. Give the shortcut a name, and voila, there it is on the home screen. Now, whenever
you click the shortcut, as long as GPS is enabled, the Droid will just launch Google Maps and
start navigating toward the location.
Now, if you want to make these shortcuts even MORE organized and useful, you can create a
folder to store them in, like, Navigation or Go To, and there you go. Frequently visited
locations, one-stop shopping.
For CNET how-to, Im Molly Wood and youre welcome.
