We'll give you the scoop on the next-gen iPod Touch; the iPhone 3GS jailbreak is out; and will the App of the Week help Brian find love?
[ Music ] ^M00:00:07 >> What's cracking? I'm Brian Tong. Welcome to the Apple Byte, and you know we're giving you all the good and bad inside the world of Apple, so let's jump into the stories. Now, we can finally take a little break from the iPhone madness, but the iPod Touch is now taking center stage. Pinch Media reports that their analytic software has detected the next generation iPod Touch being used on line. Now, this is the same company that discovered the iPhone 3GS before it was known as the 3GS from the unique model number. Pinch Media says the iPod 3.1, as it's known, was first spotted in April of this year. Traffic picked up slightly in May, and there are a few dozen distinct iPod 3.1 devices being used right now. Combine that with the reports that Apple recently placed massive orders for the same camera modules used in the iPhone, Apple's clearing of their inventory with their back-to-school deal where you can get a free iPod Touch with the purchase of a computer, and Apple's yearly iPod refresh that happens around September, it's a pretty strong bet this is going down. Now, iPod Nanos are also rumored to be receiving the cameras, and with parts being so cheap, integrating it into the iPod line seems like a no-brainer. Plus, the video quality is good enough that people won't need to carry around something like a Flip Video if their iPod already has a camera built in. Sorry, Flip. ^M00:01:22 All right, guys, in Jail breaking news, for those of you that have been waiting, the iPhone Dev team has finally released the Red Snow and Ultra Snow Jailbreak and Carrier unlock hacks for the iPhone 3GS running the 3.0 software. So, you guys can just go and have at it. Also, you guys know I'm a huge fan of the Emoji icons. They're those little, cute Japanese icons that you can unlock on your iPhone or iPod Touch with a free app like Spell Number. But if you're an iChat user, there's a solution for that, too. So check it out. Go to the website Emogiforichat.com. It's a free download, and users on both sides will need to have it installed to see the Emoji icons. But trust me, it's good fun when you can send your buddies, like, pills, beer, and guns. ^M00:02:04 All right, we have some follow-ups from last week's show. The discoloring on the back of iPhone 3GSs is now being potentially attributed to specific, cheap, old, third-party cases that people are using. And it also, potentially, can be wiped off with a little alcohol, so thanks for the heads up, Benjamin Miller. We'll see if we hear any more about this. And during our Snow Leopard sneak peak, I did mention it costs $29.00 to upgrade for existing Leopard users, but if you guys plan purchasing a computer between now and when Snow Leopard is released, you'll only be charged $9.99 to upgrade, so thanks for that info, Jonathan Rebel. ^M00:02:38 All right, now, if you guys didn't know, it's the App Store's one-year anniversary. We'd like to say congratulations; and you know it's only appropriate that we bring you the iPhone app of the week. ^M00:02:48 [ Music ] ^M00:02:50 Are you guys or gals looking for love, but just don't have the right words to say? I sometimes have that problem. Well, check out this app called "Love Link." It's 99 cents, and it's pretty self-explanatory. So, um, let's just roll the video. ^M00:03:04 >> Oh really? >> Hey, hey. Oh, what's up, Ariel? Um -- >> Hey. >> So, Jamie, I know last time it was kind of awkward with the whole phone thing. >> Um-hum. >> So check this out. I -- you know, I think that we should try this thing out. It's called "Love Link." You know, it shows us if we're compatible. So just give it a try. Come one. Just give it a try. >> Okay. >> Yeah, okay. There you go. Okay, ready? ^M00:03:21 [ Heartbeat ] ^M00:03:24 >> Not even endurable. >> You know what? I'm just gonna go. >> Weirdo. >> Ew, I don't know why he just doesn't ask me out. >> Honestly, he's socially awkward. You should just go talk with him. >> Maybe I will. >> Yeah, do that. >> Oh, Brian. >> What's up? >> What's up? You're looking down today. What's going on, buddy? >> This stupid Love Link app, it doesn't work. It's horrible. >> Wow. Let me see that. >> When's the wedding? ^M00:03:59 [ Music ] ^M00:05:19 >> Uh. >> Huh. >> Uh, whoa. I'm gonna go get some coffee. >> I'm gonna wash my hair, man, Oh. >> Oh, well, uh, I don't have anything else to say after that. So just send us your emails to the Apple Byte at CNET.com. I'm Brian Tong. Thanks for watching, and yeah, come back next week for another bite of the Apple. ^M00:05:41 [ Music ]
