CES 2020 scavenger hunt

Welcome back to CES 2020 you're watching our live coverage here on CNET. I'm Ashley Scott. Joining me, Patrick Hollen, Lexi [UNKNOWN]. Today, we have a first, the very first ever the first annual and maybe the last day and you'll see that scavenger hunt at CES Who of these gonna go? We have Bridget Carey, Iyaz Actor and Jeff Bakalar over at the Las Vegas Convention Center, each in one of the three massive halls. North Hall, Central Hall, South Hall, okay. We have these out, they have envelopes, we have envelopes. These are our envelope. Here they are. So the envelopes, have a list of items or act maybe activities. I don't know I they're sealed. Each hunter has an envelope that contains the same list of items to collect for tasks to complete. So whoever gets the most done wins. [INAUDIBLE] We'll figure it out if there's a tie. And up for grabs is a $200 to the winner's favorite charity. That's good. Is your envelope scented? Mine is. Mine smells like winners. Okay. Are we ready to open the list and go? Are we ready? Let's go. Ready. On your mark Get set, open, and go. All right, they cannot hear us. Yeah, we're not racing. Excellent, so we can say anything we'd like. So we can say anything we want. All right. All right, number one. [CROSSTALK] Yeah, they can't hear us. They need a photo with someone in a costume which is unfortunate they're not here because I saw the [UNKNOWN] bunny earlier. That would be a good one. He just keeps going and going. So they've got to find. They are gonna photo with someone with a costume. Okay, let's take a look at what's going on down here. We've got Iyaz. We've got Bridget running. I wanna talk a little bit about our contestants, okay? Bridget Carrie, I don't know if you guys knew this She is a gold medalist in the Nintendo Ring Fit World Championship. She's amazing. She is a certified prancercize instructor. She also was the captain of her high school scavenger hunt team. She lettered in scavenger hunting so I feel like she has a real advantage here you guys. She was varsity for two years. She was varsity for two years. She lettered. It was amazing. I love it. So you can see they're actually in different holes, so they're not in the same hole. We should clarify, they are in south, central, and north holes in Las Vegas convention center. Let me tell you, I think the south hole is the biggest one in terms of floor space. So here's the list, the full list, cuz they can do it in any order, is that right? So they have to take a photo with someone in costume, dance with the robot for 30 seconds, find a place to take a nap and do so, not on the show floor. Picture with an animal, any kind, real or not. Eat some free food or free drink at a booth. You can't buy it. Find a wearable and put it on it can't be something they already own. Pretend you work at a booth for at least 30 seconds. Bridget has gotten pretend you work at a booth for at least 30 seconds. Congratulations Bridget. Bridget is in the lead. She has one point. Find a piece of free swag for your kid Gather five corporate branded pens from five different companies. And get the business card of a company executive, VP level or above. So could they double up, like if I had a dancing robot that wasn't Animal, could I take a picture with it and knock out two? That's a good question. We'd have to ask the referee about that. That's serious. But is that a problem? Just food and water. He's got food or drink. He's like thank you very much. Goodbye. Goodbye. I don't know if you know about Jeff Bagalore but he is our youngest member of the CES team at just 14 years old. Well. This is his first CES. We're very excited to have him here. He also holds the NHL world record for getting hit in the face with straight cups and surviving. It He's an incredible man. And [UNKNOWN] has that restraining order against him due to that incident. He does. He has to stay away at least 100 yards from [UNKNOWN]. His favorite video game console is the Playstation 5, logo. And you can tweet to him about that. Yes it is. So guys, what are we seeing here? Walk us through what's happening. It looks like Jeff is talking to a very nice lady About, but he's trying to get something. Okay. What is he trying to get? Probably a business card. That looks like kind of pressing the flesh. is she executive level? Is she VP or above? I know exactly where, he is at the Bell Helicopter desk and they're probably High level execs, they're trying to tell him about the flying helicopter. Let's see if he- Here, look at this. Iyaz, is he working at the booth? He's working, he's working. [CROSSTALK] He's working at the booth. He's telling everybody about flying cars at the Dell helicopter booth. That's in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Look at Jeff, look at him go. Iyaz is geeking out. [CROSSTALK] [CROSSTALK] Ironically he has a [UNKNOWN] [UNKNOWN] Jacket even matches [UNKNOWN] icon color scheme Look at that he does look like he works there. Don't look like you were not picked up better booth if he tried Fun fact about [UNKNOWN] Actor. He was named after his great great great grandfather [UNKNOWN] Actor who invented the scavenger hunt in the 1800s. Look, Jeff is still going as the booth worker. He's still just hanging out there. I think Jeff is about to take a nap at the booth. What's Bridget? She's got an animal. It's a shark, a robot shark. A robot shark. With a laser beam on its freaking head. This goes back to my question. Would that count as animal if you get the picture with it? Yeah, I think so. She took a selfie with the shark. A robo shark. She got the selfie. She's got the selfie. She's got the selfie. She's looking at the list. Iyaz is I think giving out literature. I think Nikon just handed him a paycheck. I'm not sure what- He's done. He is done. If you had to put money on who would win, who do you think is gonna win here? I mean I feel like. They can't hear a [UNKNOWN]. Man, I got to go with my girls. Let's go. Team Bridget. Yeah. Team Bridget. Bridget is hustling but I think Jeff is sleek on the job. Jeff, Scott, look he is taking a picture with teddy bear. Yes. He's got the animal right there. Got a teddy bear that's not a teddy bear. Iyaz is just running. Iyaz is just running. I don't know where he's going. He's a man on a mission. Look at him go. He's headed to the Bosch booth. That is the central hall. Because I've walked that show floor many times and my shoes Shoes need replacing after this CES, so I can know exactly where he's going. But he has scavengering in his blood, though. I need one of those things. He does. That's something that has been [UNKNOWN]. No, this looks like a dead end. What do you believe of these challenges is? Of all of these? I feel Let's see. I think dancing with a robot because not every hole will have a robot that is kind of dancing. That's a great point. So here's the thing if we wanna kind of open it up, it technically could be a vacuum cleaner, right? You could technically dance with a vacuum cleaner. That's true. If we wanted to. Well, I think we should tune in to one of our contestants. Why don't we go to who's got what? Let's go to Iyaz. Can we go to Iyaz? Can we hear what's going on with Iyaz? Or her. Do you have any branded pens? Branded pens? No branded pens, you're gonna have to look [INAUDIBLE] Okay. It looks like he's trying to convince them to [CROSSTALK] What about animals? Do you have any animals here? I think he's just running through the list asking if they have anything they can give him. Now that's a [UNKNOWN] because he can bundle up. He can bundle up. Another smart strategy. This is a classic scavenger hunt strategy everybody. You've got to ask people for everything on the list just in case. You don't know if that lady has a robot and in fact, there's an animal. It's animal. He's gonna take a picture with an animal. It's a tattoo. That's so creative. Excellent. [CROSSTALK] Ashley, I was wondering, could you show us the strategy he's implementing there? Yeah, so we're gonna go to what's illustrated here and Ashley's gonna show us the strategy that Iyaz is using there. I'm gonna show you Iyaz's strategy. Iyaz, this is Iyaz right here. Iyaz went to the booth. He asked the nice ladies hey, how's it going? Do you have any animals? And I'm gonna try to draw, this is a cat. You should put legs on those ladies because it might look, it's like something different. Thank you. Those are people. Yes. All right. Okay, so he tried to draw a cat. Let's get back to the action and then he took a picture with a little Tatoo. Jeff's taking a nap. Jeff's taking a nap in a car. Yes Jeff [UNKNOWN]. Now a lot of people don't know that a nap is [UNKNOWN] natural habitat is him taking a nap. Is napping, yes. Default mode is nap mode. His nickname was Snorlax in high school. Well and he used to Believe, the nap on the beanbag contest, too. Excellent, I'm a little concerned for Jeff. He may actually fall asleep and lose. We may lose Jeff. Yeah, someone hopefully is timing him there. He will take a nap anywhere, anytime. Actually, we're being told that Jeff is definitely falling asleep. This is what we're being told right now. [LAUGH] Look at- I feel like this is previously used CES footage of Jeff sleeping in a car [LAUGH]. [LAUGH] Did you guys know that scavenger hunts are illegal in many countries? Yeah. Bridget's found her robot. Are they? There illegal, my goodness. [CROSSTALK] Yeah, outlawed in many countries. I did not realize that. Bridget's got a robot. What is she? She's adjusted it. Is she gonna use the robot? [LAUGH] Think about it. Come on Bridget, come on spooky [INAUDIBLE], yes. [CROSSTALK] Okay, here we go. [BLANK_AUDIO] She's doing ballet with a robot. Plie, plie. Very odd point, very odd point. All right, Bridget. How long do I have to dance- I feel like she's feeling the muscle. Look at this. She's doing the robot with For the robot. If they ever remake Dirty Dancing I think we have a proof of concept here. These guys are doing a great job. Jeff is marking stuff off. He's gotten a business card. Jeff's got that executive level business card. Here we go. Robot [INAUDIBLE] The robot's gonna be tough. Find a wearable Do they have to get, do they have their own business card? Is that cheating? Yes. You can't use your own business card. I am a company executive with the Ohio. None of these, they're not none of our VP level. Now we're going to see that with- Well, maybe whoever the winner is, they will actually get a Vice President title at [UNKNOWN]. What's Bridget doing here? She's at the John Deer Clues. Is that one of the things? Yeah. One of the things is swag for a kid. [CROSSTALK] The classic technique of praying. [LAUGH] Praying to God that he can get his product [CROSSTALK] Prayer is a much used scavenger hunt technique. Let's see if it pays off. Bridget's in front of the giant sprayer, that's at the John Deere booth. She's looking, maybe she's asking to get article sprayer. What could she be doing? What could she be doing there? Maybe the sprayer for free swag? She's gonna get a John Deere truck. Maybe? Is she looking to? Iyaz has a business card from from the VP, here we go, that's Jeff. Jeff's got his card. Okay, so Jeff has got a business card I think from a VP as well. Good. Do we have a score? What do we know who has got what so far? Let's create up the big board. Let's [UNKNOWN] the big board. It looks like Iyaz- It looks like Iyaz is almost done. He just needs to take a nap somewhere, find a robot to dance with, collect five corporate branded pens from five companies. Iyaz has kind of come up from the back in these, wow. Bridget. Bridget is got to catch up. She's still dancing and she's still dancing with the robot. What's going on here? You've ever dance with a robot, you know you just can't stop until the battery turn off. That's true. That is, you're not wrong. Okay cool. I see certain pictures taken. All right. We're waiting on a T-shirt. I think I mean, it's really it's close between Jeff and I asked, I think at this time, mocking the other contestants, the fact that she keeps on dancing. Just not sure what's happened. Customer of [UNKNOWN] Yeah, let's hear what's going on with Bridgette. Planning company. This is our swag. You got one down a lease. And all the water's coming your way, so. Yes. So, you are solid. You got this. My daughter is going to absolutely adore Simon Shade Planting Company. We just got swag. And indeed, she does have swag. Indeed yeah. Also known as a dance in South Carolina. Ow, that's The fact. And I had water thank you. All right. Water. Thank you so much. Water and you have a pen. No wait she's got a bottle of water. No more pens. She's got a 201? She's got free food or drink from a booth. No I don't need to interview someone right now. Okay I can see Jeff is he in North Halls? Is he in Hyundai? Yes Jeff is This is north wall. Let's go back this way. He's gonna take off in the SA-1. [LAUGH] Bridget has water. She's got five on the board. Yeah, we gotta update this here, gotta update. Iyaz has a robot, let's listen in. I wanna see Iyaz, what kind of dance moves he [CROSSTALK] I think he asked if it could dance and it doesn't. This is number, I don't know, number two, number two. This is where it could go south for Iyaz, no, he's dancing with a robot it does actually dance with a robot not robot dance with you so this will count. That robot looks upset. I would be upset too if Iyaz dances like that near me. That robot looks like it has seen some stuff. You guys. It looks bewilded. That's the Kloe robot. That's with the LG grief. And it just looks like CES is over. Now in the background is [CROSSTALK]. The question is, did that count as dancing. Tickets look more like skipping and waiting his arms. There they're rolling dance again. I still have to take a nap somewhere. He's got to put on a wearable that isn't his and he needs to still collect five Five pens total from different booths. I think that's the toughest one. The branded pen is the hard one. Yeah, writing pens. He can't just pick up like a little stylus or anything like that. I don't know if you this about Iyaz, he has a deep phobia of bananas. I did not know that. I did not know that. Is it the shape or is it the fruit itself? It's the color, so I'm very concerned he might look in a mirror and freak out. Yeah, I'm surprised he survived the [UNKNOWN] booth. He may not survive the hunt, he may not survive the hunt. He also gets sick listening to that Coldplay song [UNKNOWN] as well. That's so true, it makes him very upset. Very upset. I get sick for different reasons [INAUDIBLE] though. Bridget's looking for the car. She's explaining what's going on. She's got her swag over her shoulder. Well you are a VP and you have a business card. [CROSSTALK] I think dignity. He's looking for dignity. He feels he may have lost time on that nap and. Where [LAUGH]. That's the extra point on Jeff's scavenger card. Yes. [LAUGH] Well, you know what? It's a pleasure meeting you, Cory. You too. You gotta move on. Yeah, I'm live, I'm live, I gotta go. Jeff just got to wear it, he tried it on. Jeff's checked off the wearable. How did he do that in [UNKNOWN], cuz it's all so [UNKNOWN]. How did he get a wearable? So has Iyaz, so has Iyaz. He has also gotten a wearable. It looks like he was about to try on that LED top hat. And I gotta tell you, up on the board it says that Iyaz has wearable, but I think that should be Jeff. Yeah. I think we need to move out over to Jeff. So it just really gonna come down to pins and, I think, costume. Yeah. I think those are gonna be the two hard ones. The five pins, that's- Well, Iyaz already has the costume knocked out. Yeah. He has to find somewhere to take a nap. I think you're saying Iyaz has the advantage here. You know Harvey Dent is? You know Harvey Dent is? Sad, you guys. [CROSSTALK] Breaking news, Bridget did not get a business card, they did not have one. It is too late in the show, they gave out all their business cards. I am putting on my shameful glasses now. That is, that is, [INAUDIBLE] [CROSSTALK] They have 11 minutes. [UNKNOWN] She's still looking she's still looking. A lot of people don't know that this about Jeff too. He likes to eat chewing gum and then use it to stick to the back of his ear for some reason. Well, it's a good place to keep spare food. It is, yeah, yeah Really good place to keep spare food. Absolutely, absolutely. He can also run the 40 yard dash in just three seconds. He is not happy about that. The world's fastest man. He hates charity. Okay, let's go. He hates charity. I think I'll allow it. We're going to the boot? Let the judges deliberate. Ooh, there's, someone is getting slapped in that boot. What you got there, what you got there? That was the most half-hearted dancing with the robot. When you find a robot on the showfloor of CES you get hacked. I did not like this call but they are gonna conclude that is a dance of the robot. They gonna allow it, they gonna allow it. Shame on the boot judge. Crazy thing on this list. This is Comic-Con [LAUGH] Nobody's got a costume, right? They're not gonna find a costume. Iyaz taking a nap. Iyaz is sleeping. Iyaz is taking a nap. He's almost done guys, he's only got to collect a- [CROSSTALK] Bridget's taking a nap too at the same time.. It's gonna come down to pens. Bridget's also napping. She's found a massage chair. She is in the lap of luxury. So relaxing. Thank you, tuck me in. Thank you. Does she get some extra points for doing the snoring noises? Can Iyaz, can he maintain the lead, and keep it going and win this competition? No, they wouldn't have pens, you know Jess. That is actually surprisingly one of the hardest things to find on the show floor, because no one writes anything down. It looks like Bangalore is getting swag for his kid. I think Bangalore is received, so Unfortunately, it's a charity thing, it's live, it's a race, so we'll try and come back because I don't know if he's getting it right sounds a little like the I'm gonna use that excuse and every booth at CES or now I'm just gonna grab their slack and I'm sorry, it's a race. I gotta go. Is hard actually to get people business questions. I also noticed how that sponsorships. Thank you. [CROSSTALK] I make sure is annual thing. It's a good period. Jeff's got some pens look at him he's gonna collect some. I wanna see all five on camera cuz I think it's gonna come down to pins. And I think you're right, pins of costumes. Just like life, it comes down to pins of costumes. It's so true. My slow tech thing is gonna be the unraveling, I think. [CROSSTALK] No, okay, what's going on guys? Guy got pens. Do you have a pen She's asking for a pen, she gonna get one. No pen? No pen So we're able to count I think headphones count as a wearable? Jeff wore a wearable? Jeff, Jeff? We would not put that under wearable on our website, I don't know. We would count that as-- What were you gonna ask me? I was gonna say I don't know if we'd count headphones as a weable cuz that would actually go under the headphone category on c.net. Wearables are like fitness trackers, and-- I think we're giving it to him, cuz he wore it. Well I'm disappointed in that. But let's ask, what happens when the competitors run into [UNKNOWN] what do you think's gonna happen then? If they run-- You tell people all we want's a pen and they're like I don't know what you mean. A pen. Thank you. We need one more beautiful thing so much. Okay, we need one experi Wow, it's like they just make up names. It's not even a thing. Come on. Like make make up some brand names. Little, little stand up comics getting a little cantankerous Mary's getting upset about the pin. Well, I wouldn't be too Very serious. I mean, they're all working so hard. And I have to find a wearable. I can do this. Put on the wearable Bridget. I know somebody that does have pens. Have you checked them out? They have pens with station on them. Quail does? Yeah. [LAUGH] Someone applauded. I like that Bridget found AR glasses. That's pretty impressive. Look it, they're opening up the cabinet. Are they going to get some pens out? So it's stuck? I think they're unlocking a cabinet. You've got to lock down your pens at CES. You can't let them free. People will take them. They might never see them again. Now he's talking about other news networks, Awsome, thank you. If you find a pen just throw it at me. Sir? Sir? We do not recomend throwing pens with other people, people listening to this that is dangerous. What is Jeff, Jeff is talking to a mannequin. We don't have any branded pens for a iHome or any Is that a man in a costume? That's, does that counts? That's a costume. No, it's not. What is it, an auto-costume? That doesn't counts. No, it has to be a living person. [CROSSTALK] Mannequins don't count. I am not happy with these judges. I won't accept it. They're making this way too easy. Yeah. I don't accept it, I don't accept it. Hey, and we're sure they can't hear us, right? Overall, must be a person, a living, not a dead person, it has to be a living person at a costume. [LAUGH] They're being very clear here. How many dead people have you seen? All right they got really dark. All right. Let's keep on the pen topic. We got five minutes left and five pens apparently. [LAUGH] Honestly, who's gonna find five pens? I think Iyaz is doing the best because [CROSSTALK] Mark Lycia seems to be on the phone. Is this a legal interference, Mark Lycia on the phone helping Jeff Bakalar? This seems like collusion. No, there's no rules against that. They're teams? Okay. They can blow it out there ****, that's ridiculous. I am sorry. [LAUGH] Are you kidding me? I'm sorry you had to hear that ladies and gentlemen. He's very mad about thay mannequin you guys, really mad about that mannequin. He's got pens. Five pens, he's got five pens. Read them and weep. Too bad he doesn't have a wearable. Costume [UNKNOWN], time is money. They think they've got a costume, they've got five pens. He's headed for a costume, here we go. Wow, Iyaz is making someone write in the company logo on a pen. That works, that works. Thank you. Is that permissable? It just says the name of the company on a- A branded pen. Bridget thinks, this isn't gonna work, Bridget, no. She's in a costume, that's sort of a costume. Yeah, that's a real person, a costume. That's a good costume. Scavenger hunt, we did. Thank you so much. That's it, that's a costume. Was that a costume? That's a fabulous jacket, [UNKNOWN] so I would allow that. They create the designs for shopping malls interiors, but who would wear this? This is Heather [INAUDIBLE] Well, thank you. I mean, a high five for my scavenger hunt. Again, she gives that high five. It counts, that's a costume. The other competitors are not taking the time to thank the people they're working with. Get out there Bridget, Bridget's got a costume. We've got five pence for Iyaz and Bridget and Jeff's gotta find somebody in a costume Because it's the last thing he can't I think that was just somebody is like a company jacket that doesn't count as a costume. It was fabulous lawyer so I mean I would accept that if I was a very lovely shade of blue. He might have a costume he's looking around, he's looking around I think he's looking for like a racecar driver that does not count that is a boot shirt that somebody even fortune In the form of a digital- That is not a costume. That is not a costume. No, no, not a costume. No, that is not a costume. That is branded. The audience says no, too, Bonnie. Is it? Audience, what do you think? Is that a costume? [NOISE] What about wearables? Are headphones wearables, guys? Headphones? No. I'm with you, Patrick. [LAUGH] Yeah, right, yeah, yeah, yeah. [UNKNOWN] Does that count as a costume, or is that, I think that's- That is corporate attire. For the kids. It is. For the kids. [INAUDIBLE] For the kids. Let's let the audience decide. Is that a costume? They're saying no. No, they say no. They say that's not a costume. Bridget found a lady in a costume. Like you're supposed to? Yeah, like you're supposed to, a real costume. Come on Jeff. You can't just find a booth girl or some guy in a corporate jacket A company T shirt is not a costume my friends. It's just not. Did you know that George Clooney got his start with Scavenger Hunts? Did he really. And that's how he was discovered and hired on. Yep. All right. Well he was on Golden Girls before that. He was on Golden Girls. That's so true. And another show called the Before. So It's so amazing. We have two minutes left. You guys have two minutes. [UNKNOWN] They're screaming, this is awesome. This could be a tie, a three-way tie. Somebody has got to find five pens. Come on Bridget, come on Iyaz, just [UNKNOWN]. I've never seen Jeff Baclar move that fast ladies and gentleman, I've never seen him move that way. We asked them, we said, are you wearing costumes. They go, yeah. Well he did run real fast that one time someone was trying to take his pens. Iyaz has pens. One, two, three, four, five. I win. That's it. Iyaz wins. Iyaz is the winner. Iyaz Akhtar has won. I did the costume, robot. I believe Iyaz has won. Iyaz has won. With one minute remaining, he got five corporate pens. By the way, normally we would play We are the Champions, we're not allowed to because of royalties. So you can just think about that in your head right now. We cannot afford that. Imagine that going on. Playing, feel that. Yeah, just feel it in your heart. Your heart doesn't have to [UNKNOWN]. I can't even hum it. I can't even, I'll get a letter in the mail from a lawter, angry letter. It's not good. Iyaz, are we gonna interview? I'm gonna ask him how he's doing. Can we go to Iyaz and talk Tell him congratulations. He's good, he's done. Jeff's angry. He didn't know. Next to that lady, the lady who gave us a photo with her pig tattoo, wow. [UNKNOWN] on camera. Okay. Count me in. It sounds like Iyaz is saying his success is because of that woman's tattoo- Yeah Iyaz did it. Go Iyaz go, go Iyaz go. Now? Look, Jeff Backlar is really pitching a tantrum. Iyaz won, the crowd is cheering. Yes. There you go. There's our winner. Everybody, good job Iyaz, great job. All right guys, I've got the pens. I took a nap.
