The camera quality in most cell phones is staggering compared to what we were dealing with just a few years ago.
But while the camera on the back of your phone might be top notch, the front facing camera, AKA the self camera, is usually an afterthought.
I'm Donald Bell, and in this top five we're counting down five of the best smart phones for selfies.
Starting off at number five, the HTC One M8.
One of our favorite smartphones.
This guy is packed with useful camera features, included a dual camera system on the back that lets you play with the focal depth.
On the front, you get a five megapixel camera that will make you look gorgeous.
And number four,.
The Huawei Ascend Mate 7, another great option with a 5 megapixel front-facing camera.
Only this one is paired with a gigantic 6" screen.
You selfies will look practically life-sized on this thing.
Unfortunately, it's around $900 off contract.
So to save some money, the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G offers a similar camera for around $300.
At number 3, the HTC Desire 820.
The real headline for this phone is that it's the first in the world to ship with Qualcomm's 64 octa core processor compatible with the upcoming release of Android L. Buying it for its eight megapixel front facing camera is sort of like buying a Ferrari for the cup holders, but it shouldn't have any problems posting to Instagram.
If all those processor cores are wasted on you try number two, the HTC Desire Eye.
The eye puts a 13 megapixel camera on the front with a flash, so every shot will look like some relentless paparazzi got up in your face at the nightclub.
You'll probably love it.
Before we get to number one, let's take a minute to acknowledge an early innovator in this whole selfie-friendly phone trend, the Oppo N1.
This 2013 phone used a single 13-megapixel camera and flash and mounted on a section of phone that could swivel from the front to the back.
Sadly the phone never made it out of Asia but it still seems like an amazing idea.
Alright and now the best phone for selfies as determined by c/net senior editor Jessica Belcourt, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. You get a 5.7 inch 1440 p resolution display and a 3.7 megapixel wide angle front facing camera.
But that's not the camera you'll use.
This phone has an advanced selfie mode that lets you use the rear 16-megapixel camera and uses face detection to perfectly frame you up.
So there you go, five phones for superior selfies.
