>> Hey it's Justin Yu again, Assistant Editor for CNET.com and this time around, I've got the Atek Onboard Travel Keyboard for you. Now, although, we've never experienced this issue ourselves, apparently, some people are so unhappy with their laptop keyboard that they'd be willing to dish out an extra 30 bucks for this replacement. Now, although it's still smaller than a normal desktop keyboard, it still incorporates all the standard buttons we usually don't see in a laptop. Like a complete set of function and navigation keys, the right side control key, the right side Windows start key and this full set of function buttons up top. Now, we appreciate Atek including a full set of keys, but in order to fit them all in many of the more popular keys including Delete, Home and End are all significantly smaller than average and even users with smaller hands will mourn the super tight wiggle room. Now the USB cord attached to the keyboard is coated in a strong enamel wire and then wrapped in friction resistant nylon webbing that protects it when you throw it into a travel bag and it also clips into the keyboard like this. In addition, this cover slides over the top and does double duty as a stand. Now Atek brags that their keyboard is much easier to use than a laptop, thanks to the height and shape of the keycaps that are more similar to a desktop keyboard. The caps are more concave, taller and require more travel before actuation making it a little bit easier to type at a faster speed especially compared to the laptop. In our experience however, we found that while the keyboard does feel pretty comfortable at first, they keys themselves are too soft. In other words they don't make that really satisfying click at the bottom that confirms your engagement. As much as the Atek Onboard Travel Keyboard claims to be an improvement over any laptop, we would actually rather suffer through the flat keys on a laptop over tight quarters and a sloppy design like this one any day of the week. So, I'm Justin Yu and this is the Atek Onboard Travel Keyboard.
