Announcing CNET Scan and Shop for Droid
Hello, everyone! Im Molly Wood and welcome to the CNET Mailbag, the show where
we read your email and snail mail, introduce new features on the site, and sometimes
explain ourselves for the decisions you hate. And lets get started with a new feature!
This week, were launching the CNET Scan & Shop app for Android phones. It lets you
scan a barcode while youre shopping in a store, and then you can get access to CNET
reviews, which is great, and even BETTER, you can get price comparisons. You can search for products, too, but I think the barcode scanner thing is
cooler. Plus you can make wish lists and sign up to get emails when the price drops, all
kinds of stuff. Scan & Shop. Look for it in your Android marketplace.
And now on to things you HATE. If youve seen our weekly show on TiVo, well, you
know that weve recently canceled our weekly show on TiVo. And youre none too
happy. Scott writes:
Well CNET. You've gone and done it now. No more cheefully sassy Molly Wood saying
"Hello Tivo people!"
That sucks and no mistake. Molly Wood is arguably the best thing about any of the many
CNET video productions scattered all over the web. She's always funny, watchable, and
often hilariously opinionated; all while being well-informed.
Sorry to see you gone from my "Now Playing List", Molly.
Thank you, Scott. I really am so, so sorry to see that show go. Basically, it wasnt lack of
viewers or anything like that. The TiVo people are some of the most passionate viewers
we have! Its just that we were paying to be on TiVo. And we were paying a LOT.
And once they rolled out subscriptions for the Series 3 TiVos and you could basically get
any CNET show for free the powers that be just decided they didnt want to pay
anymore. Its not you. Its us. And Im really sorry. You can still subscribe to individual
shows on your Series 3, and just between you and me, were kicking around the idea of
some sort of digest video LIKE that show that would run on CNET TV. No promises,
though.
Ok, moving on, some lovermail for Loaded. Erik says:
Hey molly! I just have to say, I just saw Miss Delcantie's video for
shopping for charity. I had never known it was so easy! Superb job Natalie!
And although Erik spelled NO part of Natalis name right, Im sure she appreciates the
feedback, and definitely check out that special episode of Loaded it aired November 25
and its called Shopping for Charity. Its for a good cause!
And now for some emails about things I cant believe you care about. Jake says:
Why did you rename the CNET Digital Dispatch email newsletter to "Today in
CNET"????? The new name is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!! Digital Dispatch is a cool name that
sounds good. Today in CNET sounds plain, boring, and unoriginal.
Wow, dude. You know the stuff inside is the same, right? But ok. Noted. Also, Adam
says:
Molly, I was catching up on mailbag and noticed that you are wearing the same (or very
similar) shirts on 11/24 and 10/27. When I first noticed, I thought you need to expand
your wardrobe - then i realized that your just a person of limited means like the rest of us
and maybe you just really like flannel, I certainly do.
They were a MONTH apart, Adam. Come ON. Youre killing me.
And finally, lets do some auto-incorrect. Dan was good enough to send a PICTURE, he
says:
My favorite iPhone suggestion of all time. It was supposed to be swamped.
Swammerdam. Wow. iPhone is smarter than me. And sicker. Alex says:
So yesterday I was texting my friend from my Iphone about the new puppies her
dog had. I tried to type "Oh my god, I love puppies!" but for some reason my Iphone
corrected it to this... "Oh my god, I boil puppies!". My friend now refuses to let me
see her puppies, DAMN YOU IPHONE SPELL CHECK!
That iPhone is messed up. And thats it for this week, everyone, please keep your
feedback and questions coming! Email me at Mailbag@cnet.com, or send your snail mail
to 235 2nd St., San Francisco, CA, 94105. Thanks for watching, everyone.
