There's nothing flashy or exciting about the Acer Spin 7 Convertible.
And it's a lot slower than competitors because it uses a processor with a much lower [UNKNOWN] speed.
Yet I find myself liking it quite a bit as a general purpose convertible laptop.
It feels substantial.
It's almost a little too heavy at 2.9 pounds, with Gorilla Glass-covered screen, an all aluminium construction, And a 360-degree hinge with excellent tension.
The thin bezel 14-inch, 1920 by 1090 HD touchscreen fits into a-13.3 inch footprint body.
We're seeing that a lot these days.
Like most of its class, it's minimal on ports.
There are two USB-C and a multipurpose headphone jack.
And left-sided power switch and a volume control.
The display's pretty good for watching video, working and surfing the net, and generally responsive as a touch screen and in tablet mode.
The Dolby optimized speakers also sound surprisingly full, though they're in the keyboard section.
When you flip into tablet mode, it still sounds like the audio's coming right at you.
As for the keyboard and touchpad, it didn't hurl profanities at all.
The keys are in the right places and they're the right sizes.
Do I wish it were faster?
Yes.
Especially since it's just a little bit cheaper than competitors which have better specs.
And I really wish the keyboard was backlit and that the display supported the stylus for Windows Ink.
But if those don't matter to you, it's quite recommendable.
