4K-ready Sky Q takes on Netflix with touch remote, multi-room viewing
[MUSIC]
How did you [UNKNOWN]
broadcast the Sky despite streaming services like Netflix?
Well, the hoping [UNKNOWN] service so overwhelmingly comprehensive, you cannot help but subscribe.
The new offering is called Sky Q. Let's take a look.
So let's start by talking about the new box.
It is called the Sky Q [UNKNOWN] bot.
It's got a two Terabyte hard drive.
In the back it's got 12 tv tuners.
Now what that means is you're going to be able to record 4 live tv channels at once, and watch a fifth.
Now this box is 4K ready, now what that means is that on a technical level it can handle 4K video, which is very high resolution.
However Sky isn't launching it's 4K service yet, it says that's something that's going to be coming in 2016.
Now, Sky Q gets a new interface for television and you'll be doing that using this, a new remote.
It's smaller than the standard Sky remotes you get at the moment and it's called the Sky Q Touch Remote.
Now, you can see here at the top there is this touch panel.
Now, this means you can actually use your finger to swipe through and navigate programming.
That's pretty cool.
Sky is stepping up it's multi-room efforts as well, they have this smaller companion box.
Called the Sky Q mini.
Now this thing doesn't need a dish to work and it means that you can hook it up to another TV in a second room, you would get all of the live programming you would get through the main box as well as all of Sky Q on demand programs too.
As if that wasn't enough there's also a new Sky Q router and Sky Q app for tablets with apps for phones coming next year.
Now, one thing I think is going to be really, really cool with Sky Q is that you're going to be able to watch.
Programs that you've downloaded live off the TV on your tablet.
So Sky Q is coming out early next year.
One thing we don't know yet though is the pricing.
Although with all these features and all of this hardware, I would expect it to be quite expensive.
Anyway, stay tuned for more information.
I'm Luke Westaway for CNET.
And this is a first look at Sky Q.
