2019's Top 5 tech turkeys
[MUSIC]
These are the top five tech turkeys of the year.
I just got that, Turkey because of Thanksgiving.
That's clever.
Anyway, there were some big missteps and flops this year.
So why not highlight them right here?
What's better than 4G LTE 5G?
It's supposed to be amazing with insane speeds and the ability to handle a lot more devices on the network.
The wireless carriers are sprinting to get their 5G networks online.
So they can crow about it.
So here comes AT&T with its 5GE in January and February of this year.
Phones in certain regions where AT&T was going to roll out its 5G network started this plane a little 5GE indicator For the network.
Does that mean the phones were receiving 5g speeds now?
No, it was just 4G LTE with a new label.
Verizon published a blog post saying when we say 5g, we mean 5g.
The company did not name at&t but did say the potential to overhype and under deliver on the 5g promise is a temptation that the wireless industry must resist.
T mobile's John Legere was a little more direct.
He tweeted that @ATT should be ashamed of themselves slapping 5G e on something that is actually LTE is like putting an extra zero on a $10 bill and calling it a $100 bill.
Hashtag good luck using it.
A woman linked romantically to Bezos during his marriage.
Days as explained in this blog post, any personal embarrassment AMI could cause me takes a back seat because there's a much more important matter involved here.
If In my position, I can't stand up to this kind of extortion.
How many people can?
Bezos also said if he did not agree to affirmatively publicized to a specific lie, AMI said it will publish the photos and quickly.
The Dean of Hofstra's School of Communication said Jeff Bezos was really facing the situation.
But those images might be hanging over his head for years to come.
So putting it out in public his own terms.
Was a masterstroke.
Number three is movie pass, it's dead Jim after a wild ride movie past finally shut down on September 14.
It was a great idea.
Pay a small fee.
Watch a few movies at a theater at one point, you could pay around $10 per month and see one movie.
per day.
The only problem was how on earth does movie past make money?
Yeah, so this was a problem.
Tons of people paying a small fee and movie pass taking big losses.
There were some attempts to write the ship.
Movie pass change fees changed how many movies you could watch and which movies you could watch using the service.
It was all too much.
Even though things ended for movie pass the movie theater market changed.
AMC introduced its own service.
regal has its unlimited past Alamo Draft house.
Has it season pass, so thanks MoviePass.
Coming in at number two is the Galaxy Fold.
Samsung really tried.
In a world where almost every smartphone looks the same as the other, Samsung went big.
It wanted to get its foldable tablet in the hands of the masses.
Here comes the Galaxy Fold.
Sure, you could use the front display as an odd android.
However, unfolding the device unveiled a 7.3 inch screen.
An app you are using on the front, but continue in a new form on the big display.
You want to camera.
How about six?
You want to spend $1 How about nearly 2000?
The price tag also meant this was a premium device, but then the bad things happened.
Some review units were breaking Samsung then delay the introduction of the fold from April to September.
Downside.
Bad press and the fold launched after Samsung's own no 10.
This super premium device was not looking so hot.
The upside?
Well at least it wasn't like the note seven thing, that was a lot worse because of that got hot.

And a number one is Facebook and Libra.
Right, so Facebook co founded the Libra Association.
What introduced a new cryptocurrency called Libra, the association but also be the authority for this new currency.
Then we've got Facebook creating a new company called kaliba.
It would run a wallet for Libra.
Sounds good so far right before the Libra Association.
First meeting, seven out of the original 28 founding members dropped out.
The dropouts included, Visa, MasterCard, eBay and PayPal.
Then we had Mark Zuckerberg before the US committee.
US representatives were less than thrilled about Libra California Rep Brad Sherman called Libra a powerful burglary tool a New York Rep said, Mr Zuckerberg we do not want to break the international monetary system.
Zucks said that Facebook will not launch Libra anywhere in the world until the US regulators, It's a proof.
So like some turkeys, Libra did not fly in 2019.
I'm Iyaz Akhtar see you online.
