Sony adds a three-megapixel model to its MiniDV line

Capturing video on MiniDV cassettes and 3-megapixel stills on a Memory Stick Duo card, the DCR-HC96 comes in at the top of Sony's HC tape-based consumer camcorder line. It's equipped with a 2.7-inch wide-screen touch-screen LCD to match its wide-screen capture mode, 10X Zeiss zoom lens, and 1/3-inch sensor that promises good low-light image quality. For shooting in the dark, there's an infrared mode for video and a built-in flash for stills. The HC96 also comes with Sony's Handycam Station cradle, for connecting to a PC or a TV and charging the camcorder battery. You can attach an optional video light or external microphone to the HC96's hotshoe as well. The DCR-HC96 will be available in February for $800.
