Small company's XML gumption

Is it smart for a small firm to sue the entire world in an effort to raise much-needed cash? According to CNET News.com, a small company called Scientigo wants anyone who uses XML to pay them for the privilege.

Scientigo says they have patents on the technology, which is used to disseminate information in a gazillion ways--everything from text and video feeds to RSS feeds used by blogs to some cellphone or handheld applications and more.

But, the story says, they'll have an uphill battle. Not only is XML so widespread that they'll essentially be fighting a huge swath of the Internet, including giants such as Yahoo, Amazon, and Microsoft; but also, the technology they developed is based on earlier standards dating back decades. And if you're a small company using XML, what are the chances they'll get you to pay?
