Short Take: Former Cascade exec launches startup

Another member of the former Cascade Communications executive team is part of a start-up targeting next-generation carrier equipment needs. Wu-Fu Chen, a Cascade founder, along with some former Cisco executives, launched Shasta Networks, a start-up aspiring to offer services over IP-based entworks with a combination of hardware and software. The company has raised $5.65 million in venture funding. Salix Technologies, an equipment firm founded in 1990, also joined the market to provide an integrated voice and data-based networking device, announcing an ETX line of switches.
