Who else is getting Android 2.2?

Google today officially pushed out its "Froyo" Android 2.2 update to owners of the Google Nexus One smartphone. What other Android handsets can we expect to see with the update in the near future?

HTC has recently confirmed that the Froyo update will be available to owners of the HTC Legend, Desireand Wildfireover the course of Q3. This, of course, could mean as early as next week or as late as September, and will depend not only on HTC's engineers building the modified firmware for your phone model, but on the Australian carriers testing and approving this new build as well.

Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Motorola are also working on updating the firmware in their respective Android products. Samsung in the US recently confirmed that it will upgrade its Galaxy S series of devices to 2.2 but did not specify a timeline, while Sony Ericsson has committed to a Q4 release of the update for theXperia X10 and X10 mini. Motorola is the only manufacturer to be planning a handset with 2.2 installed out of the box, with the US-only Droid X handset to ship with Froyo in the coming weeks. Motorola will also upgrade its low-end trio, the Backflip, Quench and Dext, but only to the 2.1 version of Google's OS.
