The Amazon Kindle Fire HDX catches fire today. Order the new 7-inch tablet now and it could be in your hands by tonight, although you'll have to wait for the 4G model.
Specify evening delivery and you can get the new tablet this very day. It starts at £199, if you don't mind 'Special Offers' -- adverts -- on the lock screen. Add a tenner to get it without adverts.
The 7-inch HDX sports a high definition 1,920x1,200-pixel screen and quad-core processor with a choice of 16GB, 32GB or 64GB memory. The tablet runs Amazon's heavily customised Fire OS 3.0 Mojito software on top of Android, with features including a Mayday button that opens a video chat with an IT support bod.
I hope Amazon makes a regular thing of naming its software after cocktails -- that's a take on Android's confectionary-themed monikers that I can get behind. After all, it's always 5 o'clock somewhere. Cheers!
If you want the 4G version, you can order now but will have to keep your powder dry until 27 November. The 4G model starts at £269 and is only available with a Vodafone contract.
An 8.9-inch version is also in the pipeline, boasting an eye-popping 2,560x1,600-pixel screen.
